Job Description

We’re seeking a Level 1 Union Diesel Mechanic to join our experienced team. In this entry-level role, you’ll support our lead and journeyman technicians while building hands-on skills in diagnostics, repair, and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance. This is a union position and a great opportunity for individuals looking to advance into a journeyman-level technician career with the backing of Ford-certified training and real-world mentorship.

Job Type & Schedule

Job Type: Full-time
Location: Lyons, IL
Schedule: Monday – Friday, with potential for rotating Saturdays
Pay: $25-$35 Based on experience and union agreement

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and light repairs on diesel vehicles under supervision

  • Assist with troubleshooting and diagnostics using advanced shop tools

  • Learn and apply proper procedures for servicing engines, transmissions, brake systems, and electrical components

  • Work closely with journeyman mechanics and follow their guidance in day-to-day repair tasks

  • Review repair orders, complete tasks efficiently, and follow all manufacturer specifications

  • Communicate effectively with the service team and contribute to shop productivity

  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures

  • Take part in on-the-job training and manufacturer-led instruction

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in automotive or diesel service preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • ASE Certification required

  • Ford certification or prior Ford dealership experience is a strong plus

  • Comfortable performing diagnostic, electrical, and engine repairs

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity

  • Familiarity with diagnostic software and electronic testing tools

  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills

  • Eagerness to learn new systems, processes, and technology

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
