Job Summary/Basic Functions

The HIC 1 and 2 works independently.
The employee must be able to answer the phone lines in a courteous and polite manner. The employee must be able to direct all calls or be willing to find the information requested by the caller. The employee must be knowledgeable in computer skills, fax machine and copier. The employee must be flexible and willing to move to a different workstation when asked.

LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry Pediatric Department is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Health Information Coordinator 1 or 2.

  • This is a Civil Service Position.
  • No Civil Service test score required to be considered for this vacancy

  • Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.
  • This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: No minimum required

Number of years required to perform the job: 1

Type of experience required to perform the job: HIC1-One year of experience in administrative services; OR
One year of training in or completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum from a business school or technical institute.

HIC 2-One years of experience in administrative services in a medical setting.

Substitution: HIC 1-Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the required general experience.

Additional Information About This Position

Duties and responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Enters all of the patient data in the electronic health record.
  • Schedules all screening patients and returning patients which may include Oral Surgery patients and General Practice Resident patients.
  • Schedules all dental students’ patients in axium when needed
  • Schedules all dental hygiene students’ patients.
  • Greets patients with a positive attitude
  • Communicates well with the diverse population of patients, the faculty, students and staff.
  • Explains the compliance rules to the patient in a concise and proper way
  • Assigns a clinic number to all new patients
  • Answers phone line and direct all calls to the proper area.
  • Assists faculty and students in gathering information concerning a patient.
  • Notifies students of patient cancellations.
  • Is flexible to change working areas if needed

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Compensation: There is a starting rate $16.37 for HIC2 and $15.30 for the HIC1 per hour.
Pay is dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. There is an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.
