Job Summary
Xavier University of Louisiana-the nation's only historically Black and Catholic university-seeks an energetic, highly organized, and student-centered professional to serve as Program Manager for Computer Science. This position will provide strategic operational leadership for the department's academic programs, student-success initiatives, industry engagement, recruitment activities, and experiential-learning opportunities.
The Program Manager will serve as a central point of coordination among students, faculty, University offices, alumni, employers, and external partners. The successful candidate will help strengthen Computer Science pathways from recruitment through graduation, expand access to internships and career-connected learning, support program assessment and continuous improvement, and elevate Xavier's visibility as a leading producer of diverse, technically capable, ethically grounded computing professionals.
This position is ideal for an individual who combines operational excellence with a genuine commitment to student mentorship, equity in STEM, and the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in higher education, student affairs, business administration, technology management, computer science, STEM education, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in program management, higher education administration, student success, STEM outreach, workforce development, academic advising, project coordination, or a related area.
  • Demonstrated organizational, project-management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, employers, alumni, and community partners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, inclusive excellence, and the mission of a historically Black and Catholic university.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting academic programs in computer science, data science, information technology, engineering, mathematics, or another STEM discipline.
  • Experience working in a college or university setting, particularly an HBCU, minority-serving institution, or mission-driven institution.
  • Familiarity with technology-sector workforce trends, internships, professional certifications, and graduate-school pathways in computing.
  • Experience coordinating employer partnerships, internships, experiential learning, STEM outreach, or industry advisory boards.
  • Experience with data tracking, student-retention initiatives, assessment reporting, grant administration, or accreditation support.
  • Familiarity with student-information systems, CRM platforms, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, project-management tools, and basic data-reporting systems.
  • Experience supporting first-generation college students and students historically underrepresented in STEM fields.

Program Operations and Academic Support
  • Coordinate day-to-day administrative and operational activities for the Department of Computer Science.
  • Support the Department Head and faculty in planning, implementing, and evaluating departmental initiatives, strategic priorities, events, and student-success programs.
  • Maintain departmental calendars, records, communications, budget documentation, purchase requests, and other administrative workflows.
  • Coordinate course-related logistics, laboratory scheduling, guest speakers, workshops, student orientations, and departmental meetings.
  • Assist with preparation of reports, presentations, accreditation materials, program-review documentation, assessment records, and data requests
  • Maintain accurate records on enrollment, retention, graduation, student participation, internships, scholarships, and other program outcomes.

Student Success, Advising, and Retention
  • Serve as a primary non-faculty resource for Computer Science students, connecting them with academic support, tutoring, financial aid, career services, counseling, and other campus resources.
  • Develop and coordinate student-success initiatives focused on persistence, timely progression, academic recovery, transfer support, and degree completion.
  • Support faculty advisors by monitoring student milestones, identifying students who may need intervention, and helping coordinate outreach.
  • Organize peer-mentoring, tutoring, cohort-building, and professional-development activities for Computer Science students.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation activities for new and prospective students interested in Computer Science.
  • Assist students in identifying research opportunities, internships, fellowships, competitions, hackathons, certifications, and graduate-school pathways.

Recruitment, Outreach, and Communications
  • Develop and implement recruitment and outreach activities that strengthen the pipeline into Computer Science, particularly among historically underrepresented students in computing.
  • Partner with Admissions, Financial Aid, Enrollment Management, area schools, community organizations, and STEM pipeline programs to promote Computer Science at Xavier.
  • Coordinate prospective-student visits, departmental open houses, summer programs, information sessions, and recruitment events.
  • Maintain current departmental communications, including newsletters, social-media content, web updates, promotional materials, and student spotlights.
  • Help articulate the value proposition of Xavier's Computer Science programs to prospective students, families, employers, alumni, and external partners.

Industry Partnerships and Career-Connected Learning
  • Cultivate relationships with employers, technology firms, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, alumni, and professional associations.
  • Coordinate internship, co-op, externship, job-shadowing, and employer-engagement opportunities for students.
  • Support the development of advisory-board activities and industry-informed programming that keeps departmental offerings responsive to workforce needs.
  • Organize career panels, technical workshops, alumni networking events, employer visits, and professional-skills programming.
  • Collaborate with Career Services to track placement outcomes and strengthen student preparation for internships, employment, and graduate study.

Grants, Partnerships, and Institutional Advancement
  • Assist faculty and departmental leadership with grant-supported activities, including student participation tracking, program logistics, reports, budgets, and dissemination.
  • Support partnerships with regional, national, and international organizations that expand opportunities for Computer Science students and faculty.
  • Help identify external funding, sponsorship, and partnership opportunities that advance departmental priorities.
  • Prepare periodic reports on program activities, student outcomes, partnerships, and strategic progress for the Department Head, Dean, and other institutional leaders.
