About the Role

New Lisbon Broadband and Communications (NLBC) is expanding our team with a reliable, detail-oriented Underground Utility Locator. This role supports our fiber optic and broadband deployments by accurately marking underground utilities in accordance with Indiana 811 dig laws. You'll play a critical part in protecting infrastructure and ensuring safe construction throughout our growing service areas.

This is a field-based position with travel across our Indiana network footprint.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately locate underground utilities based on 811 tickets following all state laws and NLBC procedures
  • Utilize provided maps, GIS data, engineering drawings, and electronic locating equipment
  • Mark underground utilities with flags and/or paint for fiber and other buried infrastructure
  • Capture photos and complete digital documentation for each locate using company-provided mobile apps
  • Investigate and document any damages to underground utilities, providing detailed written reports
  • Maintain company-provided vehicle and equipment in good, clean, and working order

Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours locates as needed

  • Minimum 2 years of underground utility locating experience
  • Working knowledge of Indiana 811 laws and best locate practices
  • Ability to read utility maps, engineering prints, and GIS information
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Capable of using smartphone-based apps for documentation and reporting
  • Must pass a drug screen and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to travel 75%+ across our service area
  • Ability to work varying schedules, overtime, and participate in on-call rotation
