KLS Earthworks & Environmental is seeking an experienced Underground Utility Maintenance Supervisor to join our Calgary-based team. We're looking for a strong field leader with hands-on experience in underground utility maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation. This role will lead crews to complete maintenance and repair work on existing underground infrastructure, with a focus on safe execution, efficient troubleshooting, and minimizing disruption to surrounding operations and the public.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and supervise crews completing underground utility maintenance and repair work.
  • Coordinate daily activities, manpower, equipment, materials, and site requirements.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, replacement, and rehabilitation of existing water, sanitary, and storm systems.
  • Troubleshoot underground utility issues and determine practical repair solutions in the field.
  • Coordinate emergency and planned utility repairs, including watermain breaks, service repairs, sewer issues, and damaged infrastructure.
  • Safely coordinate excavation and exposure of existing utilities.
  • Read and interpret utility drawings, locates, grades, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Work around active and existing utility systems while minimizing service interruptions.
  • Coordinate with operators, labourers, subcontractors, municipalities, inspectors, and other site personnel.
  • Ensure repairs and installations meet applicable specifications and quality standards.
  • Monitor crew productivity and keep maintenance and repair work progressing efficiently.
  • Complete required daily documentation and communicate work progress, issues, and repair requirements to management.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices, including requirements related to excavation, trenching, confined spaces, and working around existing utilities.
  • Mentor crew members and maintain a productive, respectful team environment.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years' experience as an Underground Foreman/Supervisor or Lead Hand in Underground Utility construction.
  • Strong hands-on experience with water, sanitary, and storm utility maintenance and repair.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing existing underground infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of City of Calgary Utility Specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, utility locating, shoring, bedding, backfill, and compaction.
  • Ability to read construction and utility drawings and understand grades and elevations.
  • Experience working safely around active underground utilities.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively when unexpected conditions or utility issues are encountered in the field.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with crews, clients, municipalities, and the public.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and meet the physical demands of underground utility work.
