Job description

The Compliance Manager has demonstrated experience with fueling systems, including underground storage tanks, fuel dispensing equipment, leak detection systems, and associated monitoring and control systems. This role is responsible for managing underground storage tank regulatory compliance, equipment upgrades, and environmental and safety reporting for all United States locations.
The Compliance Manager leads a team of Compliance Specialists and Coordinators and works closely with regulatory agencies, internal operations groups, and third party service vendors to resolve issues related to fuel inventory and reporting, underground storage tanks, and Stage I and Stage II vapor recovery systems at all monitored locations. The Cpmpliance Manager also obtains and tracks environmental operating permits and collaborates with maintenance, licensing, and fuels operations teams to correct compliance deficiencies.
This role requires the ability to independently resolve complex compliance matters and apply sound judgment using established procedures and regulatory knowledge across assigned regions.
Main Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance:
  • Lead environmental regulatory compliance across all United States locations, including reporting, testing, and Class A, B, and C certification requirements.
  • Manage air permits, tank registrations, and other required facility permits and ensure accurate tracking in compliance systems.
  • Oversee corrective actions related to regulatory inspections, annual and triannual testing, and compliance findings.
  • Direct tank repair, removal, and closure projects to ensure timely and accurate regulatory documentation.
  • Support and guide compliance staff with alarm resolution, troubleshooting, and coordination of repairs.
  • Partner with operations and maintenance teams to ensure timely completion of required regulatory and safety training.
  • Provide oversight of compliance driven maintenance and capital projects.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies, internal stakeholders, and service vendors to resolve compliance issues and performance.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Safety Functions:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain companywide Health and Safety programs for office, fueling operations and retail facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, Cal OSHA, and state specific occupational safety regulations across all locations.
  • Conduct safety inspections, incident investigations, and hazard assessments related to fueling systems, maintenance activities, and contractor work.
  • Lead safety training, emergency response planning, and risk mitigation for fuel handling, spills, and hazardous operations.
  • Oversee contractor safety compliance for fueling system maintenance, tank removals, repairs, and capital projects
  • Track safety performance metrics, maintain required documentation, and serve as the primary safety contact during audits, inspections, and incidents

Requirements
Skills and Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Requires 5-10 years of experience in environmental Compliance and facility maintenance or related specialty. Ability to influence without direct authority
  • Demonstrated experience with fueling systems, including UST systems, dispensers, vapor recovery, and monitoring systems
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team
  • Strong project management experience required
  • Ability to influence without direct authority
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Pay rate for this position is up to $100,000 per year
