In a professional context, 'underdogs' are individuals or organizations that are expected to have less chance of success compared to their competitors. They often face challenges such as fewer resources, less experience, or lower visibility. However, underdogs can stand out by demonstrating resilience, creativity, and determination, sometimes achieving surprising levels of success. The term is commonly used in sports, business, and other competitive fields to describe those who are not favored to win but still participate with the hope and drive to succeed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an underdog, and why are they important?

Team members frequently work in cross-functional groups, requiring strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds such as engineering, product, and marketing. The fast-paced environment offers great opportunities to take initiative, develop new skills, and quickly advance within the company, but it also demands flexibility and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Job description

About Us

At McCune Law Group, APC, we’re not just practicing law — we’re on a mission. As a premier plaintiff law firm, we take pride in fighting for the everyday person against some of the most powerful corporations and institutions in the country. From personal injury and mass torts to complex class actions and consumer rights litigation, we are the legal David going up against Goliaths.

Our team operates across California and nationwide with one goal: Justice for those who need it most. If you’re looking to work on high-impact cases where your work changes lives, we want to meet you.

Position Summary

We’re looking for a Litigation Paralegal with personal injury experience to join our powerhouse team. Reporting to the Practice Group Leader at our Lafayette, CA location and working directly with our attorneys, you’ll play a critical role in supporting complex litigation matters from start to finish. You’ll be empowered to use your expertise to push cases forward and advocate for clients who are depending on us.

What You’ll Do (The Mission at Hand):

  • Draft and prepare detailed legal documents and correspondence in high-stakes personal injury cases.
  • File documents in state and federal jurisdictions, with a sharp focus on compliance and timing.
  • Own discovery — draft, review, and respond with precision.
  • Step in like a pro when legal support is needed — manage mail, field calls, and help guide junior staff.
  • Communicate with clients who need your compassion and clarity during difficult times.
  • Take the lead on trial preparation: deadlines, exhibits, witnesses, pleadings, and pretrial statements.
  • Investigate and research personal injury claims with focus, grit, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Schedule and coordinate depositions, subpoenas, and service of process.
  • Keep the attorney’s calendar (and the case!) on track — with proactive, detail-oriented docketing.
  • Mentor up-and-coming legal professionals and help shape the next generation of paralegals.
  • Work with expert witnesses and prepare materials that will make or break the case.
  • Support case settlement procedures and help close cases with precision and care.

What You Bring to the Fight:

  • Prior experience working as a Litigation Paralegal in personal injury law.
  • A paralegal certification or equivalent qualification under California BPC §§6450-6456.
  • A deep understanding of attorney-client confidentiality and the litigation process.
  • The ability to juggle deadlines, court rules, and legal procedures without dropping the ball.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ideally, platforms like Litify, Fonality, and Hona.
  • Confidence, curiosity, and an underdog mindset — you thrive in fast-paced, high-impact environments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for justice, advocacy, and helping real people take on corporate giants.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools such as Westlaw.
  • Experience mentoring and training junior legal staff.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced office setting.

Why Join McCune Law Group?

You won’t be just another cog in the machine. You’ll be part of a mission-driven team that’s fearless, focused, and fiercely protective of our clients. At MLG, you’re surrounded by attorneys and staff who are passionate about using the law to right wrongs and make a difference.

Equal Opportunity Employer

We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. McCune Law Group is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
