Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This position will support the Central Region, which is comprised of Santa Monica and Westwood regions, primarily in the Santa Monica Campus area, providing patient care for our inpatient and outpatient settings. The Santa Monica and Westwood regions support 4 - 10hour work week schedules and participate in on-call, holiday, and weekend schedules as prepared by the manager. Additionally, participation in rotating shifts is required, as needed.

In this role, you will:
    • Provide age-appropriate assessment and interventions in order to meet the needs of patients and families served
    • Obtain, evaluate and use information from the patient requisition, medical records, referring physician and correlate with acquired images
    • Use cognitive sonographic skills, to identify and differentiate anatomy and pathology
    • Use independent judgement to produce diagnostic images of human anatomy utilizing diagnostic ultrasound systems for our referring providers and our interpreting physicians
    • Extend courtesy to our patients, family members, visitors and co-workers through our "World Class Practices" Service Standards

Internal candidates will be placed according to their Active/Current career ladder level.
External Applicants:
Staff Sonographer:
    • One to two years of experience within the hospital / acute care setting
    • Must maintain active RDMS certification in one specialty, i.e. Abdomen or OB-GYN
    • Graduate of CAAHAP accredited ultrasound program is strongly preferred
    • Salary Range: $58.74 - $77.50 Hourly

Senior Sonographer (Advancement into Senior Sonographer job classification can be assessed after 6 months with UCLA Health):
    • Minimum of four years of prior experience within the hospital / acute care setting
    • Must maintain Active RDMS certification in three specialties: Abdomen, OB-GYN and RVT
    • Proficient in Abdomen, OB/Gyn, Pediatric and Vascular Sonography. Additionally, proficiency in interventional procedures
    • Graduate of CAAHAP accredited ultrasound school is strongly preferred
    • Salary Range: $65.55 - $79.93 Hourly

Salary Range (Staff through Senior): $58.74 - $79.93 Hourly

Staff Ultrasound Technologist
  • At least 1 year of acute care (hospital) experience - required
  • RDMS credential in one specialty (Abdomen or OBGYN) - required
  • Experience in Breast Ultrasound Imaging - strongly preferred

Senior Ultrasound Technologist
  • 4 years of prior acute care (hospital) experience - required (Advancement into Senior job classification can be assessed after 6 months with UCLA Health)
  • RDMS credential in Abdomen, OBGYN and RVT - required

General Requirements
  • BLS/CPR Certificate - required
  • Graduate of CAAHAP ultrasound program - strongly preferred
  • AAS or higher in Medical Sonography - preferred
  • RDMS (AB or OBGYN) - minimum requirement
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, visitors, physicians, nurses, staff and others in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to accept and carry out oral and written instructions accurately
  • Ability to employ independent decision making, prioritize work, while handling multiple tasks to completion within allotted time
  • Ability to show attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
  • Basic typing skills to input various data into RIS and HIS Information systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology with the ability to distinguish between types of procedures within the assigned department(s) and medical diagnoses
