Job description

TankWorx + Construction Services, LLCTank Welder โ€“ New Construction & Repairsย Position Summary

The Tank Welder is responsible for performing structural and pressure-retaining welding associated with aboveground storage tank construction, repairs, alterations, and maintenance in accordance with applicable codes, customer specifications, and company quality standards. This position performs welding on API 650 new tank construction, API 653 repairs, structural steel, nozzles, attachments, and related industrial fabrication while maintaining the highest standards of safety, workmanship, and productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform welding on aboveground storage tanks in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Weld carbon steel components used in API 650 new tank construction.
  • Perform repair welding on existing storage tanks in accordance with API 653 requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, isometric drawings, and fabrication drawings.
  • Prepare base materials by grinding, beveling, fitting, cleaning, and aligning components prior to welding.
  • Perform SMAW (Stick), FCAW (Flux Core), and GMAW (MIG) welding as required by project specifications.
  • Perform full penetration and fillet welds on tank bottoms, shell plates, roof plates, structural members, and attachments.
  • Weld nozzles, manways, reinforcing pads, stair systems, platforms, handrails, and structural steel.
  • Maintain proper weld quality while meeting production requirements.
  • Follow approved welding procedures and ensure weld parameters remain within specification.
  • Inspect completed welds for quality and workmanship before submitting for Quality Control inspection.
  • Repair weld discontinuities identified during visual, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, radiographic, or vacuum box inspections.
  • Operate welding machines, grinders, torches, plasma cutters, carbon arc gouging equipment, and hand tools safely.
  • Assist with fit-up activities when required.
  • Maintain welding equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Properly identify and store welding consumables.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Participate in daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox meetings, and pre-task planning.
  • Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and customer site requirements.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Assist other craft personnel as workload requires.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors.
Required QualificationsEducation
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited welding program preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of industrial welding experience preferred.
  • Experience with API 650 tank construction preferred.
  • Experience with API 653 tank repairs preferred.
  • Experience working in refineries, petrochemical plants, terminals, manufacturing facilities, or industrial construction environments.
  • Ability to successfully pass company welding qualification tests.
