Job description

University Learning Center (ULC) Student Assistant

The University Learning Center (ULC) is dedicated to providing academic support to The New School's diverse student population through one-on-one tutoring sessions, workshops, and more. Student assistants provide crucial customer service and admin support to ensure students can easily access our services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting students, faculty and staff with requests (in-person, via email, online chat), including:

  • Monitor the ULC inbox and respond to student, faculty and staff inquiries including:
    • Scheduling assistance
    • ULC policy clarification
    • Troubleshoot minor tech issues, such as connectivity/audio issues, etc.
    • Direct students to the appropriate New School office(s)
  • Schedule appointments for students, including using Google calendar and ULC online scheduler (WCONLINE)
  • Communicate with ULC staff and tutors via Slack and Gchat, including notifying tutors of timely student issues–lateness, tech problems, etc. and vice-versa
  • Update spreadsheets to track confidential information, including:
    • Student attendance
    • Scheduling data
    • Session summaries
  • 6-8 hours a week, depending on availability

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Friendly demeanor and a positive attitude
  • Experience working with Google Drive, especially Google Sheets (or Excel)
  • Prior office experience preferred
  • Experience working with ESL students a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Federal Work Study Preferred

Work Mode: Hybrid #LI-DNI

Hourly Rate: $17/hr
