What does a UL inspector do?

A UL Inspector evaluates products, systems, and facilities to ensure they meet safety and compliance standards set by Underwriters Laboratories (UL). They conduct inspections, testing, and audits to verify compliance with UL regulations and industry standards. Their work helps ensure the safety, performance, and regulatory adherence of electrical, fire, and other certified products. UL Inspectors may also document findings, communicate with manufacturers, and recommend corrective actions if needed.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a UL inspector?

To thrive as a UL Inspector, you need a solid understanding of safety standards, quality assurance processes, and technical product knowledge, often supported by relevant technical degrees or certifications. Familiarity with UL (Underwriters Laboratories) testing procedures, inspection tools, and documentation software is critical for performing accurate evaluations. Attention to detail, integrity, and strong communication skills are essential soft skills for effective reporting and collaboration. These competencies ensure the safety, compliance, and reliability of products evaluated under recognized standards.

The work may require travel to various client sites or manufacturing facilities. This role is essential for upholding public and workplace safety by ensuring only compliant products reach the market.
