Description
Description of role and job responsibilities:
  • The ideal candidate will coordinate with the Bureau's Public Diplomacy and Sanctions Teams, EB offices and leadership, Department of State bureaus, and the Interagency to calibrate messaging on issues broadly related to Russia and Ukraine economic engagement, including sanctions. 
  • Draft communication and clear through the Department and Interagency statements, tweets, press releases, toppers, videos, fact sheets, press guidance, etc.  
  • Also clear through the Bureau and/or Department statements, tweets, releases, fact sheets, press guidance, etc. originating from other agencies and bureaus.  
  • Work with the Bureau, Department, and Interagency on press/social media rollout plans to amplify major sanctions activities.  
  • Prepare EB leadership and working level officers for media events and public appearances.  
  • Build positive relationships with journalist who cover Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and related issues.  
  • Clear through the Bureau, Department, and Interagency interviews for EB leadership and working level officers and make logistical arrangements as needed.  
  • Draft and review outgoing internet and social medial content for proper format, consistency with policy guidance, and grammatical accuracy, and makes necessary corrections or returns to originator for changes.  
  • Maintain current, public-facing information on economic issues involving Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus, including on the Department's website.  
  • Field media inquiries by clearing responses through the Bureau, Department and Interagency, determining ground rules, and relaying to reporter.  
  • Coordinate with the Department's Global Public Affairs (GPA) Bureau to update information on economic issues, including sanctions, on website pages.  
  • Keep EB leadership and staff appraised of media coverage and of messaging related to economic issues in Ukraine and Russia coming from USG leadership.  
  • Coordinate messaging on the Bureau and Department social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter and Linked In. Draft and review outgoing digital content for proper format, tone, and consistency with policy guidance.  
  • Coordinate with Public Affairs sections at overseas posts to ensure that economic policy actions connected to Ukraine and Russia are highlighted online. 
  • Other office duties within overall work scope will be reasonably assigned. 
In this role, you will be expected to master the organizational structure of the State Department, as well as offices with press functions at the Department of the Treasury and the National Security Council. In addition, you will be expected to become familiar with EB operations, including on key issues such as sanctions, development finance, aviation agreements, and supply chains.  
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience in general practices within the Federal Government, and specifically within the Department of State. 
  • Experience working with staff of all levels.  
  • Ability to act as liaison. 
  • Experience in applying government regulations and procedures, such as travel regulations as they pertain to domestic and international travel.  
  • The ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple assignments with tight deadlines that often require coordination with other organizations.  
  • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) to collect, organize, prepare, and present information to a variety of audiences.  
  • Must possess a bachelor's degree in public administration, marketing, or communication. 
  • Strong oral and written communication.
  • Speech writer skills. 
  • Familiar with sanctions and Ukraine development ad reconstruction. 
  • This position requires a SECRET security clearance 

Work Schedule:
  • Monday-Friday onsite at an office in Washington, DC
  • Work hours are from 8am - 5pm with a one (1) hour unpaid lunch
