About the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion: Located in Hillcrest, the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion is a state-of-the-art, 250,000-square-foot medical facility designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of our region. Spanning six floors, this advanced facility is home to key clinical programs and offers specialized diagnostic, treatment, and surgical services. With a strong emphasis on cancer care, we are committed to delivering world-class medical services in a patient-centered environment.

Applicants who have recently graduated or are nearing graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy program are also encouraged to apply.

DESCRIPTION

Radiation Therapists perform a wide variety of technical therapeutic procedures by the application of ionizing radiation from radioactive materials or generators to treat benign or malignant diseases of the body; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Under supervision, Radiation Therapists perform a range of typical duties outlined in the series concept. The Radiation Therapist typically confers with Radiation Oncologists and works closely with Dosimetrists to:

  • Discuss the treatment plan and the type of simulator films that will be necessary; places reference markings on the patients' bodies.
  • Reviews treatment procedures with the patient to reinforce the therapist's comments on reactions to therapy, ensuring that communication and emergency procedures are understood.
  • Advise on appropriate dietary and skin care procedures.
  • Position patients for single portal, multiple portal, rotation, or cross beam therapy, providing immobilization devices as required.
  • Set up equipment according to the treatment plan, verifying the placement of bars, wedges, and similar devices.
  • Closely monitor the patient for unexpected reactions and report these deviations to the Therapist.
  • Record delivered dosage values on the chart, verifying these values against the prescribed treatment plan.

Radiation Therapists may also calculate prescribed dosages of ionizing radiation to be delivered to the patient; assist in preparing applicators for interstitial and intracavitary implants; operate simulation, radiographic, and automated or manual film processing equipment; evaluate the technical quality of localization and verification port films; perform minor equipment adjustments; order equipment and supplies; and evaluate equipment for modification and replacement.

The Radiation Therapist functions as a member of a team with Senior Radiation Therapists in patient treatment on supervoltage equipment and acts independently in the operation of orthovoltage equipment and in taking radiographic films for simulation purposes. This position also offers opportunities for professional growth, hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment, and the chance to work in an academic center that fosters a strong culture of training and learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • California Radiology Technologist of Radiography (CRT-R).

  • Registered Technologist for Radiation Therapy issued by ARRT (R.T(T)(ARRT)).

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Experience with daily set-up and treatment of patients.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences.

  • Ability to be a self-starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision; open to new ideas; creative and flexible and is comfortable working in a large, complex organization.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to exercise a high level of professional integrity, credibility, commitment to high standards and accountability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience in a large complex healthcare environment.
  • Experience with CT Simulations, MU Calculations, Aria, Patient Manager, Treatment and Time Planner.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $131,586 - $163,616 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $63.02 - $78.36

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
