OB/GYN Pelvic Pain Specialist - HS Assistant, Associate or Clinical Professor

Position overview:

Position title: HS Assistant, Associate or Clinical Professor

Salary range: The posted UC Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 - Summary. The salary range for this position is $250,000-$325,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a Health Sciences Assistant, Associate or Full Clinical Professor in the Division of General OB/GYN. This physician will be part of the UCLA Health OBGYN Pelvic Pain Program.

We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Obstetrician-Gynecologist with specialized interest and training in the non-surgical management of chronic pelvic pain and vulvodynia to join our team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients with complex pelvic pain conditions while contributing to medical education, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation and non-surgical management of patients with chronic pelvic pain, vulvodynia, and related conditions including interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, and pelvic floor dysfunction.
  • Develop and implement individualized, multimodal treatment plans incorporating pharmacologic therapies (topical anesthetics, neuromodulating medications, hormonal therapies), trigger point injections, pudendal nerve blocks, and botulinum toxin injections.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care with pelvic floor physical therapists, pain specialists, psychologists, sexual counselors, gastroenterologists, and urologists.
  • Provide patient education regarding pain mechanisms, realistic treatment goals, and long-term management strategies.
  • Maintain longitudinal relationships with patients requiring ongoing chronic pain management.

Academic and Educational Responsibilities:

  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows about the evaluation and management of chronic pelvic pain and vulvodynia.
  • Develop and deliver educational curricula on trauma-informed care and pelvic musculoskeletal examination techniques.
  • Mentor trainees in evidence-based approaches to complex pain conditions.
  • Participate in departmental conferences, grand rounds, and continuing medical education programs.

Research and Scholarly Activities:

  • Contribute to clinical research in chronic pelvic pain and vulvodynia treatment modalities.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and care delivery.
  • Present findings at regional and national conferences.
  • Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals.

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree or equivalent
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Active or eligible for medical licensure in California
  • Demonstrated clinical interest and experience in chronic pelvic pain and vulvodynia management
  • Strong commitment to patient-centered, multidisciplinary care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with trigger point injections, nerve blocks, and botulinum toxin administration
  • Training in trauma-informed care approaches
  • Familiarity with pelvic floor musculoskeletal examination techniques
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary pain management teams
  • Prior academic appointment or teaching experience
  • Research experience in chronic pain conditions
