Custodian
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $12.21/hour
Status: Part-Time
Shift: Evenings
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Custodian is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, which include such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. The Custodian will also complete duties related to window washing, room set up, groundskeeping, light maintenance, and other related responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Performs daily walkthroughs of the facility.
  2. Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.
  3. Perform general cleaning duties as assigned which could include but not limited to wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming and other general cleaning responsibilities.
  4. Performs light maintenance duties as assigned which could include, but not limited to, changing light bulbs, replacing shower heads, hanging pictures, replacing water fountain filters, preventative maintenance on equipment, etc.
  5. Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  6. Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  7. Ensures YMCA building and property is safe and secure during shift. Reports incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  8. Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies. Maintains an accurate log of cleaning supplies.
  9. Assists with room set up, as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Six months or more of related experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 15 feet.
  • Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  • Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi - reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
  • Ability to use basic computer functions such as typing, online trainings, and basic use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
