Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of site reliability engineers who are working to keep Twitter reliable and scalable;
  • Partner with engineering leadership across Twitter to achieve reliability outcomes for their services;
  • Drive and participate in deep technical design discussions within your team, and across partner teams, and ensure that we're building the right systems and keeping the quality high;
  • Establish standard practices and processes for planning and prioritizing reliability work;
  • Manage engineers spread out across various time zones and regions;
  • Coach, grow, and empower your team to make impactful decisions that lead to their personal and professional success, and enable them to become technical leaders;
  • Coach the individuals on your team to build and execute personal development plans that align with Twitter's goals and objectives, and understand how their work fits into the bigger picture/mission.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience;
  • Experience managing services in a distributed, internet-scale *nix environment;
  • Development experience in Python, Scala, Java, C, or C++;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of TCP/IP and HTTP;
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with systems programming (bash and shell tools);
  • Experience using containerization software such as Kubernetes, Docker, Mesos;
  • Familiarity with systems management tools (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc.);
  • Comfortable working with on-prem and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, GCP) in terms of deployment, support, monitoring, administration, and troubleshooting;
  • Proven understanding of systems and application design, including the operational trade-offs of various designs;
  • Experience with Kubeflow, Scatter-gather systems, and offline systems like Hadoop is a plus
