Job Description
The reading tutor will be workingprimarily but not limited to pre-literacy children, typically 3rd grade andunder. Enhance children's reading and comprehension skills.
They may provide reading sessions inone-on-one or group settings, depending on the event Global Give A Book, Inc.(GGAB) is having.
Global Give-A-Book's mission ispromoting youth literacy by giving award-winning books to children inneed. GGAB will be working closely with agencies that work witheconomically disadvantaged families. The reading tutor will read a book to thechildren, after the reading session the children will be allowed to take a bookhome to keep.
It is essential the reading tutormotivates children to read while making them feel comfortable throughout thereading sessions.
Responsibilities of the job include:
Implement a small-group early literacy curriculum.
Read to children in settings of ten or more children.
Keep and maintain the attention of small children.
Develop and implement literacy with children in preparation for successful future elementary education
Work with disadvantaged children backgrounds reading below grade level
Tutor children on content and grammar for various assignments.
Perform the role of a reading tutor for children that have English as a second language (ESL).
Provide intensive literacy instruction to children for whom low literacy has been identified as a potential barrier to academic
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
