Position Description/Requirements
The Learning Center at Lincoln Land Community College is seeking motivated and supportive students to join our team as Peer Tutors! Peer Tutors provide one-on-one and small group academic support to fellow LLCC students across a variety of courses. Peer Tutors play a vital role in helping The Learning Center foster a welcoming and supportive environment that empowers students to seek academic support and develop as confident, independent learners.
Peer Tutors will perform the following duties:
  • Assist students with specific course-related concepts and problems in one-on-one, small group and/or drop-in tutoring sessions.
  • Meet regularly with the Tutoring Coordinator to reflect on tutoring practices, discuss observations from sessions, explore the use of various learning strategies, and address any potential challenges.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings and training.
  • Maintain accurate records of student appointments.
  • Help students learn how to:

1. Develop effective study strategies.
2. Use supplementary learning materials.
3. Communicate with their professors.
4. Clarify classroom and textbook content.
5. Understand and apply academic rules, definitions, and concepts.
6. Work through sample problems and examples.
Peer Tutors will be paid $1 above minimum wage and will be scheduled to work up to 20 hours per week.
Peer Tutors may have the opportunity to supplement their work hours by working in other areas of the Learning Center. Note that, with exception of Peer Tutor, the hourly rate for working in The Learning Center is minimum wage. If you are interested, the Tutoring Coordinator will discuss this opportunity with you during your interview.
All LLCC Student Workers have the following institutional responsibilities:
  • Uphold LLCC's mission, as well as certain standards of conduct within the College and in dealings with students, staff, faculty and the general public.
  • Responsible for compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other regulations with regard to confidentiality of and access to student and other institutional records.

Requirements include the following:
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress by:

- maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 with 3.0 preferred
- earning grades of "A" or "B" in all courses tutored
  • Enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) during the semester of employment, with the exception of summer term.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Have a high level of patience and a sincere desire to help others.
  • Recognize when to make referrals to appropriate campus resources when assistance beyond tutoring is needed.
  • Submit timesheets and other required documents according to established deadlines.
  • Complete LLCC's mandatory harassment prevention and cybersecurity training within 30 days of employment.
  • Complete all mandatory training requirements for CRLA Level 1 Peer Tutor Certification.

If working with minors, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
