Employees appreciate the great benefits we offer, including golfing at our beautiful courses. SUMMARY for our ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT:
This position is primarily responsible for assisting the Golf Course Superintendent in overseeing the agronomic maintenance program for the golf course and all landscaped areas. This position is also responsible for daily assignment, directing, and supervising staff to accomplish various projects.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides assistance to Superintendent in all facets of daily operation.
Acts as Superintendent on duty in the absence of the Superintendent.
Maintains the appearance and safety of the course by diagnosing and reporting agronomic issues.Manages irrigation system adjustments and scheduling.Maintains a wide variety of turf grasses in extreme climatic conditions.
Manages course preparations for tournament and daily play.
Safely operates a variety of golf course maintenance equipment and heavy construction equipment to accomplish projects as needed.
Integrates environmental programs specializing in IPM (Integrated Pest Management).
Assists in the coordination, scheduling and supervising of capital improvement projects.
Manages maintenance operations (employees involved in maintaining greens, fairways, tees, sand traps, bodies of water, roughs, maintenance shop, golf carts and clubhouse) by providing assistance in recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, evaluating, supervising and correcting when necessary.
Assists Superintendent in executing safety meetings.
Assists in administrative function by maintaining maintenance records and developing required maintenance reports; tracking maintenance expenses including payroll, supplies, fertilizer, chemicals, etc.; informing Superintendent of parts, supplies or equipment needed.
Performs manual labor as needed.
Ensures a clean and orderly maintenance compound at all times.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises crew members in the Maintenance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree (A.A) from a two-year college or technical school in Agronomy, Turf Management or related field preferred and one to three years of related equivalent experience in golf course maintenance required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Class C member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association preferred.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:VA Commercial (Not for Hire) Class 3B Pesticide Applicators license
Either valid driver's license or commercial driver's license.
OPERATIONS OF SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT:
Golf course maintenance equipment including but not limited to all types of mowers, sprayers, sand rakes, and utility vehicles and small engine machinery and tools.
Heavy construction equipment including but not limited to backhoe, tractors, loaders.COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite; timeclock software; point of sale software; HR onboarding software; order processing software; irrigation control systems software.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
