Position Summary:

The University of Northern Colorado is seeking motivated individuals for a temporary Seasonal Sprots Field Assistant role. This position offers hands-on experience supporting a wide range of athletic and recreational activities across campus facilities. The successful candidate will gain practical skills in sports turf management while assisting with the preparation and maintenance of fields used for practices, games, and special events.ย 

Job Duties:

Field Maintenance:ย 
Mow, edge, and trim grass on athletic fields and surrounding areasย 
Prepare baseball and softball fields, including dragging infields and lining fieldsย 
Repair damaged turf and reseed high-traffic or worn areasย 
Maintain synthetic turf surfaces through brushing and debris removalย 

Irrigation & Watering:
Operate and monitor irrigation systemsย 
Adjust watering schedules based on weather conditions and field needsย 
Assist with minor irrigation maintenance and repairsย 

Game & Event Preparation:
Set up and break down equipment for games and practices (e.g., bases, goals, benches)ย 
Ensure fields meet safety and playability standards prior to eventsย 
Assist with tournament and event setup across multiple campus venuesย 

Equipment & Facility Care:ย 
Clean, maintain, and store tools and equipment properlyย 
Report equipment malfunctions and safety hazards promptlyย 
Help maintain organized and safe storage areasย 

General Groundskeeping:ย 
Remove trash and debris from fields, sidelines, and spectator areasย 
Assist with landscaping tasks such as mulching and shrub trimmingย 
Support general campus grounds maintenance efforts

Work Environment & Supervisionย 
Work is performed outdoors in varied weather conditionsย 
Position operates under the direction of full-time landscape and grounds professionalsย 

Minimum Qualifications:

Interest in athletics, landscaping, turf management, or facilities operationsย 
Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and prolonged outdoor workย 
Strong attention to detail and reliabilityย 
Ability to work independently and as part of a team


Must possess a valid Driver's License for a minimum of 2 years. Will be required to drive a university vehicle to transport, supplies and tools.ย
