Job Summary

  • The Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and is responsible for executing the Superintendent’s job duties in the superintendent's absence. The Superintendent is entrusted with the maintenance, operation, and management of the golf course. This position serves as a liaison between the company, the customer representative, and the golf shop on matters related to daily course operations. The Superintendent is easily contacted and also remains in contact with key employees on the golf course at all times. The Assistant Superintendent must be able to respond quickly to any situation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervising and directing maintenance staff
  • Proper water management through hand syringing and sprinklers
  • Irrigation system monitoring, repair, including start up and blow out
  • Fertilizer/Pesticide applications and record‑keeping
  • Scouting - turf health, pests, weeds, irrigation issues
  • Operation of all types of course maintenance equipment
  • Assisting with a multitude of cultural practices including aerification and topdressing along with capital improvement projects
  • Snow Removal-shoveling, salting, and plowing
  • Ensuring safe working practices throughout the operation including weekly safety meetings

Education and Experience:

  • Two or Four year degree/certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred but not required.
  • Past experience at a reputable golf club preferred but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience as an Assistant Superintendent is highly desirable.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

  • Constant operation of a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, photocopier, and computer printer
  • Ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of walking, standing, and kneeling
  • Ability to maintain, in your possession at all times, required medications to address any known allergic reactions should they occur.

Work Environment:

  • Work in an indoor office and also outdoors during site walkthroughs and site supervision duties

Compensation Pay Range:

$30-$33/hour depending on experience (Plus overtime)
