The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization,has an opening fora Food Service Manager for the Murfreesboro Corp, located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. 

Job Summary 

The Food Services Manager is responsible for delivering the food service for four campus locations. Directs, supervises and evaluates the full operations of a food service program of a commercial kitchen; plans and develops menus; purchases food and maintains an adequate level of inventory for program needs; prepares and administers a food budget; ensures food service program operates in compliance with health standards and regulations; supervises, schedules, evaluates, and participates in the work of kitchen personnel including the cooking and serving of meals. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

Must be familiar with manuals, guidelines, or established procedures that contain “complex matters that can be understood or interpreted only by those with advanced or specialized knowledge or skills,” i.e. food safety and preparation; ensures food service program operates in compliance with health standards and (local, state, federal) regulations.”  Knowledge of the principles and safety practices of food preparation and management.  Knowledge of proper cooking methods and procedures.  Knowledge of meal planning techniques. Knowledge of acceptable food storage and cleaning techniques.  Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.  Knowledge of health regulations governing the operation of public kitchens.  Ability to lead, motivate, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate employees.  Ability to plan and cook nutritional, tasteful, and safe food for large groups in a timely manner.  Ability to ensure kitchen appliances are properly operated and maintained.  Ability to order food and kitchen supplies in an economical manner and to maintain an adequate level of inventory.   

Education and Experience 

High School Diploma or G.E.D. degree or some formal education and certification in the culinary arts and basic food safety practices for preparing and serving food. Degree in culinary arts preferred and Two to three years progressively responsible experience in food service management with at least six months experience in a supervisory capacity, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.  Ability to cook, taste, and smell food.  Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.  Ability to perform mathematical computations; Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends: Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying heavy objects (50 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.  Work is performed in an environment where there may be a little physical discomforts associated with changes in temperature, physical effort associated with cleaning and demonstrating fitness equipment as well as discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.  May be exposed to heat and refrigeration.
