Job description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Safety Specialist opportunity in Johnson City, TN.
Job Description:
The Safety Specialist supports the implementation and execution of industrial safety programs to protect the health and safety of site personnel. This role assists with hazard analysis, safety evaluations, training, emergency response, and regulatory compliance activities while supporting daily operational safety needs. The position works closely with site personnel and management to promote safe work practices, conduct field oversight activities, and support continuous improvement of safety programs and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Supports the development, execution, and assessment of programs to protect the health and safety of site workers.
  • Supports the activities of hazard analysis teams and independently executes program elements as assigned.
  • Determines potential hazards and required protective actions resulting from investigative activities, including participation in safety evaluations of processes and activities for new or modified plant facilities, processes, systems, and components.
  • Participates on readiness review teams.
  • Supports emergency response activities as directed.
  • Recommends improvements or enhancements to existing programs to the Industrial Safety Manager, and as directed, implements improvements or enhancements.
  • May prepare program documents and instructions, including development of new procedures or other command media as required.
  • Executes safety program elements and responsibilities, as assigned, to protect the health and safety of site workers.
  • Prepares permits, performs pre-job walk downs and hazard analyses, provides equipment, and performs testing, monitoring, and oversight.
  • Collects and compiles data into a usable form, performs routine analysis and interpretation, and takes appropriate actions based upon data indications.
  • Reports results to Industrial Safety management.
  • Implements required safety training and qualification programs for site workers

Qualifications:
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Health Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of ES&H experience in a high-hazard industrial, chemical processing, manufacturing, nuclear, or regulated production environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NRC/DOE (if applicable), and other relevant regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and strategic problem-solving skills
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar credentials are a plus
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance, if required
