Job description

Trust & Estate Litigation Associate – Mid to Senior Level

5+ Years | High-Stakes Fiduciary & Probate Disputes
Portland, OR • Los Angeles • Orange County

Direct Counsel is partnering with a respected, full-service law firm to add a mid- to senior-level Associate to its Trust & Estate Litigation practice. This is a standout opportunity for an attorney who thrives in complex, emotionally charged disputes and wants meaningful courtroom exposure across sophisticated probate and fiduciary matters.

About the Practice

This group is deeply experienced in representing individual, professional, and corporate fiduciaries, as well as beneficiaries, in the full spectrum of contested trust and estate matters. The work is nuanced, fast-moving, and highly strategic—ideal for litigators who want to sharpen their advocacy skills in a specialized, high-impact practice.

What You’ll Do
  • Handle all phases of trust and estate litigation, including:

    • Drafting petitions and pleadings

    • Managing discovery and motion practice

    • Taking and defending depositions

    • Making court appearances

    • Preparing for and participating in trial

  • Litigate matters involving trusts, estates, conservatorships, guardianships, and elder abuse

  • Appear before Oregon circuit courts with probate jurisdiction and California probate courts

  • Collaborate closely with partners and clients on complex fiduciary disputes

  • Leverage related experience in trust and estate planning or administration (if applicable)

Who They’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of focused experience in trust & estate litigation

  • Significant experience litigating probate and trust disputes in Oregon and/or California courts

  • Active Oregon Bar admission (required)

  • California Bar admission strongly preferred given the bi-state nature of the practice

  • Strong writing, analytical, and courtroom skills

  • Confidence handling matters with a high degree of independence

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary Range: $160,000 – $230,000

  • Bonus Potential: Up to $106,000

  • Competitive bonus structure

  • Unlimited PTO

  • 401(k)

  • Comprehensive benefits package

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

This role offers the chance to join a growing, sophisticated trust & estate litigation practice where senior associates are trusted with meaningful responsibility, client contact, and real courtroom work—within a supportive, collaborative environment.
