Job description

Position Summary

The CNC Machinist I (Tube Laser) sets up, operates, and monitors CNC tube laser cutting equipment to produce accurate, high-quality tube and structural components in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for loading and staging tube stock, selecting approved cutting programs, monitoring cut quality, inspecting finished parts, and making routine adjustments to maintain production and quality standards.


Responsibilities

· Set up, operate, and monitor CNC tube laser cutting machines in accordance with approved work instructions and production schedules.

· Load, position, and secure round, square, rectangular, and other structural tube profiles in machine chucks and supports to ensure proper alignment, fit-up, and repeatable cut quality.

· Select approved cutting programs and make authorized adjustments to cutting speed, laser power, focus position, assist gas pressure, and other operating parameters.

· Monitor the cutting process and inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy, hole and notch placement, miter angles, edge quality, and compliance with drawings and specifications.

· Perform minor deburring, cleaning, and rework of cut parts when required and qualified.

· Read and interpret fabrication drawings, cut lists, work orders, and specifications to confirm material, tube profile, wall thickness, and process requirements.

· Troubleshoot routine alarms, material feed and chuck alignment issues, nozzle and lens wear, and other basic machine interruptions; escalate complex equipment concerns to maintenance or supervision.

· Safely load, stage, and move tube stock and finished parts using material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, overhead crane) as required.

· Complete required production and quality documentation, perform routine machine cleaning and preventive maintenance, and maintain a safe, organized work area in accordance with company procedures.

· Assist with machine changeovers, nesting/program selection, and minor programming adjustments as directed.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Minimum 1 year of experience operating CNC laser, plasma, or other flat-sheet cutting equipment; plate/flat-sheet laser experience strongly preferred.

· Experience with CNC tube laser systems (e.g., BLM, Mazak, Trumpf) is strongly preferred.

· Basic math and measurement skills, including use of calipers, tape measure, and squares.

· Working knowledge of CAD/CAM or nesting software a plus.

· Forklift, overhead crane, or magnet/vacuum lift certification a plus, or willingness to obtain.

· Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, teamwork and commitment to safety and quality standards.

· Ability to read, write, and interpret fabrication drawings, understand work instructions, safety procedures, and production documentation in English required.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Physical Requirements

· Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)· Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently· Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings (e.g., lifting assessment, vision test, hearing test, fitness for duty test, etc.)· Must be able to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection· Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required· Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity· Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment· Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects

Work Environment

Manufacturing floor with exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp materials, and moderate to loud noise. May be exposed to hot or cold environments depending on season. Work schedule may include overtime or weekend shifts as needed.
