Job description


Purpose/Job Function:

The Manager of Truckload Services is responsible for managing the operations of truckload brokerage as well as a team of carrier sales representatives. This role will manage carrier activities and build upon our name recognition. This position will also negotiate and arrange transport of goods with shipping or freight companies, in order to achieve revenue objectives. In addition, this role is responsible for upholding our core values of ethics, engagement, and excellence.


Essential Functions:

•    Develops, fosters, and negotiates carrier relationships that enhance carrier performance and capacity retention for AFS clients.

•    Establishes performance metrics for the Truckload Department and its team members to support the Corporate Goals and Objectives

•    Manage and maintain safe carrier onboarding. 

•    Monitor daily KPI’s for truckload brokerage.

•    Manage daily track and trace compliance. 

•    Defines and implements process improvements to optimize departmental and organizational performance.

•    Establish a working relationship with core carriers.

•    Develop and foster carrier relationships to enhance performance in both brokerage and logistic shipments.

•    Maximize margin by utilizing historical data and market indices.

•    Document, update and distribute carrier contracts as shipments are awarded.

•    Confirm shipments brokered for AFS’ clients are delivered in a timely and damage free manner.

•    Work as a team to maximize operational effectiveness with departmental depth.

•    Negotiate carrier charges to optimize the service to the client and achieve profit objectives for AFS. 

•    Resolve discrepancy between carrier invoices and carrier contracts to support Accounts Payable activities.


Qualifications and Requirements:

•    Computer literate with MS Office Software

•    Intermediate skills in Excel

Education/Experience:

•    Associates Degree or equivalent preferred, but not required

•    Minimum 5-year experience in 3PL or Brokerage Environment required


Working Conditions: This position will be sitting in front of a computer for long hours at a time and may cause eye irritation or even muscle strain. 

This position does not require any strenuous or physical activity.

Customary Work Hours: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Position may require extended hours including evenings and weekends for special events.
