Trivium information

What is a trivium?

Trivium professionals are experts who specialize in the classical liberal arts of grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Historically, the 'trivium' formed the foundation of education in medieval universities, focusing on developing critical thinking, clear communication, and persuasive argumentation skills. Modern Trivium educators or practitioners often teach these disciplines in classical schools or through specialized educational programs, helping students to analyze information, construct logical arguments, and express ideas effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a trivium teacher?

To thrive as a Trivium teacher, you need a strong grasp of grammar, logic, and rhetoric, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in education or the liberal arts. Familiarity with classical education curricula, lesson planning software, and assessment tools is often required. Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and the ability to inspire intellectual curiosity are vital soft skills for this role. These abilities foster deep student engagement and help develop well-rounded, analytical thinkers in a classical education environment.

What are some common challenges faced by trivium teachers when engaging students in classical education, and how can they be addressed?

Trivium teachers often encounter challenges such as varying student readiness for grammar, logic, and rhetoric stages, as well as keeping lessons engaging across different learning styles. Adapting classical methods to modern classrooms requires creativity—using discussions, debates, and real-world examples can help bridge gaps. Collaboration with colleagues and ongoing professional development also support effective teaching and student engagement. Building a supportive classroom culture and integrating interdisciplinary projects are valuable strategies for overcoming these challenges.

Job description

Ready to lead automation and maintenance in a 24/7, high‑speed plant?

If you’re the kind of leader who can move from a safety audit to a PLC logic change to a vendor negotiation—sometimes in the same hour—this role is for you.

Your impact
  • Set the standard for safety: enforce NEC, OSHA, lockout/tagout, high‑voltage protocols, and BRC/GMP requirements; conduct safety meetings, inspections, and hazard assessments.
  • Lead, train, and mentor Electricians, Mechanics, and Electro‑Mechanical Technicians; build a culture of integrity and continuous improvement.
  • Own preventative and predictive maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical, mechanical, and control issues on high‑speed production and steel‑forming equipment.
  • Be on point 24/7 for critical failures, startups, shutdowns, and emergencies.
  • Drive PLC/HMI programming and optimization; modernize legacy systems (e.g., migrate Allen‑Bradley PLC‑5 to ControlLogix).
  • Partner with operations to improve reliability and throughput; track and report maintenance/electrical KPIs.
  • Plan and deliver mechanical, electrical, and automation projects from concept through startup.
  • Review electrical schematics, blueprints, and specs to ensure safe, high‑quality installations.
  • Coordinate vendors/contractors for capital projects and equipment upgrades.
  • Run MRO best practices: set min/max levels, support technical purchasing and part selection, maintain accurate inventory, and guarantee availability of critical spares.
  • Manage budgets, spare parts, and shop supplies; maintain precise records (work orders, logs, inspections, documentation).
  • Safeguard internal controls and live Trivium’s core values; be a respectful teammate and a careful steward of resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Do you bring the right background?
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 3–5 years in industrial maintenance within fast‑paced manufacturing.
  • 2–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
  • Experience in steel manufacturing and/or food processing strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with AC/DC motors, VFDs, pneumatic/electronic instrumentation, and wireless technologies.
  • Comfortable reading electrical schematics and technical manuals; CMMS savvy.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; detail‑driven and results‑oriented.
  • Comfort operating under pressure in a 24/7 environment.
Work environment & physical demands
  • Majority of time on the production floor: frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing, and hands‑on work.
  • Frequent reaching; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as needed; occasional work in non‑permit‑required confined spaces (unless otherwise trained).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs (not continual); strong hand/eye coordination.
  • Close/distance vision and color recognition are required.
  • Loud noise environment—hearing protection and assigned PPE required.
  • Exposure to temperatures below 40°F and above 90°F; atmosphere may include fumes, dust, and odors.
