About the job:
  • Regional Director, Regulatory & Patient Safety/Risk Management Services is accountable for providing leadership, administrative direction, oversight and implementation support for regulatory compliance, patient safety, and risk reduction.

What you'll do:
  • Regional Director, Regulatory & Patient Safety/Risk Management Services is accountable for providing leadership, administrative direction, oversight and implementation support for regulatory compliance, patient safety, and risk reduction.
  • Facilitates transition from a retrospective, reactive model for patient safety/risk management and regulatory compliance to a prospective, proactive approach consistent with the concepts expected of a high reliability organization.
  • Designs, directs and facilitates implementation of effective systems for regulatory compliance and continuous survey readiness.
  • Develops, coordinates and facilitates implementation of effective systems for risk identification, investigation, and mitigation of both potential and actual patient safety concerns and risks.
  • Aligns patient safety and risk management priorities with Mount Carmel's quality and performance improvement strategic plan and with regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Facilitates the design of process improvement endeavors to support the elimination of errors and other factors that contribute to adverse patient outcomes as well as to meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Provides education for colleagues, physicians, boards, leadership and other stakeholders on regulatory/compliance requirements and patient safety needs, initiatives and activities.
  • Provides support to Mount Carmel departments and to Mount Carmel affiliated joint ventures relative to analysis, preparation, and monitoring to respond to regulatory and/or patient safety/risk issues.
  • Serves as the Mount Carmel liaison to Trinity Health for regulatory/accreditation matters. Collaborates with Trinity Health Accreditation Services in preparing Mount Carmel to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as the Mount Carmel liaison to Trinity Health for Patient Safety/Risk Management matters and develops collaborative relationship to enhance identification and adoption of evidence-based strategies to improve patient safety and to mitigate risk.

What we're looking for:
  • Minimum Education Requirement: Baccalaureate Degree in Health Care field required. Masters in Nursing, Allied Health or Business preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent hospital practice. Clinical and management experience required. Broad based clinical or management leadership experience with knowledge of complex systems and systems change with demonstrated success in tactical and analytical thinking.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement systems and process thinking principles and designs
  • Understanding of tools and techniques used to identify system or process failures that contribute to regulatory noncompliance, patient safety issues, or sentinel events.
  • Current knowledge and expertise in regulatory compliance and licensure requirements in hospital and in ambulatory settings
  • Current knowledge of clinical and regulatory standards related to hospital/patient safety.
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Excellent presentation skills with ability to relate effectively to physicians, all levels of the organization and colleagues in a fluid, flexible and adaptive fashion.
  • Innovative, self-directed and flexible

  • Understands and applies group process skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, settings and varied complexities
