Overview

Gardeners help keep Fearrington Village’s roughly 20 acre Village Center looking exceptional year round. This position, the Fearrington House Inn Gardener, is a highly visible role; he or she shall maintain ornamental garden beds and water features surrounding the Inn, which was completed in 1987. The 32 room Fearrington House Inn is a full service property and is a longstanding, proud member of the Paris-based hospitality association, Relais & Chateaux.

This gardener is supported as needed by a grounds crew which handles tasks involving mechanized equipment like lawn maintenance, irrigation, hedge trimming, tree removal, etc. Gardeners and groundskeepers are employees of Fitch Creations, Inc., a family company which and owns and manages the Inn, the shops, restaurants, spa, in the Village Center and continues to build the Fearrington residential community. is a highly visible role, and she or he maintains.

Job Description

The Fearrington House Inn Gardener shall:

  • Perform general horticultural duties such as design, installation and maintenance of display gardens, including mulching, weeding, watering, pruning, etc.
  • Ensure public walkways and patios are kept free from plant debris.
  • Operate gardening tools including golf carts, blowers, push carts, and hand tools, ensuring all applicable safety standards are followed.
  • Interact regularly and pleasantly with guests and visitors.
  • Ensure outdoor wedding venues are kept clean and tidy.

Education and Experience

  • At least 3 years hands-on horticulture work experience, i.e. public garden, plant nursery, private gardening.
  • Strong knowledge of plant species that thrive in our area, and plant sourcing and maintenance techniques.
  • Must enjoy interacting with and working in close proximity to the general public.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks around constraints such as various business hours, weather extremes, events on property, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to perform heavy lifting up to 40 lbs.

An Associate or B.S. degree in horticulture or related field is a plus but not required.

Compensation
