About A Plus Tree

A Plus Tree is the premier tree care company serving communities throughout California and the Pacific Northwest — over 20 years strong. Our ISA Certified Arborists deliver expert tree care backed by our proprietary tree management app, ensuring every tree is tracked and cared for at the individual level. If you're looking to grow your career with a team that takes tree care seriously, A Plus Tree is the place.

The Role

The Groundsperson is essential to our field operations — supporting climbers, operating equipment, managing debris, and keeping job sites safe and efficient. No prior experience required; what matters most is a passion for safety, a strong work ethic, and the drive to grow. At A Plus Tree, safety isn't just a policy — it's our number one priority on every job, every day.

What You'll Do

  • Follow all safety protocols, ANSI Z133 standards, and PPE requirements on every job — no exceptions
  • Participate in daily pre-job safety briefings; communicate hazards to crew leader immediately
  • Assist climbers with gear preparation, rigging, and lowering branches
  • Operate chainsaws, chippers, weed eaters, pole trimmers, blowers, and assist with aerial lifts and bucket trucks from the ground
  • Clear brush, manage vegetation debris, and perform site clearing and debris removal
  • Work within minimum approach distances of energized power lines per strict safety protocols
  • Clean and inspect trucks and equipment daily; perform trailer hauling as needed
  • Assist with tree planting, pruning support, plant health care, and vegetation management as assigned
  • Maintain pace with the crew for the full shift; show up on time and fit for duty
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor

What You Bring

Required:

  • Strong commitment to safety in attitude, behavior, and daily practice
  • Reliable, punctual, and hardworking — a true team player
  • Ability to lift 75+ lbs and perform heavy manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work near energized power lines, poisonous plants, and noxious vegetation
  • Valid U.S. driver's license must be 18+ (21 + to operate company vehicles)
  • Willingness to learn new skills and grow within the industry

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in tree care, utility line clearance, or outdoor labor
  • Familiarity with aerial lift/bucket truck operations and energized electrical infrastructure
  • Pesticide applicator's license — or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Work Environment

  • Outdoor work year-round in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, and uneven terrain
  • Work near active utility lines, automotive traffic, mechanical equipment, noise, and airborne debris
  • Exposure to allergens such as pollen and ragweed, insects such as bees and spiders, and reptiles such as lizards and snakes
  • Required PPE provided: eye protection, safety vest, gloves, hard hat, and ear plugs,
  • 8+ hours/day, 5 days/week; travel and extended hours may be required
  • Availability for early start times, overtime, and occasional weekend work

What We Offer

  • $23–$27/hr based on experience
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance | Paid sick leave | 401(k)
  • Uniforms and PPE provided | Overtime opportunities | Bonus eligible | Employee Referral Bonus
  • Ongoing training and a clear path to advance into Climber, Crew Leader, and beyond

Applicants must be 18 or older; 21+ to operate company vehicles.
