Summary

The Fortis Associate Commercial Portfolio Manager (“APM”) is responsible for supporting Commercial Portfolio Managers in underwriting new loan opportunities and loan servicing actions of existing clients. The APM will assist in the management of commercial credits and partner closely with Bankers, Portfolio Managers, and Relationship Managers to deliver outstanding solutions to our clients. This individual is not required to source new business opportunities, but rather will focus on converting commercial loan opportunities generated by Bankers and will support the team in client meetings.

The ideal candidate will be able to undertake a variety of tasks and work diligently under pressure. This individual will be comfortable working with a high degree of attention to detail and discretion as well as incorporating new and effective ways to achieve better results.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Bankers and Portfolio Managers in managing a portfolio of commercial clients.
  • Respond to client inquiries and provide assistance with banking products and services.
  • Act as a liaison between clients and internal departments (Credit, Treasury, Operations).
  • Conduct financial analysis of borrower and guarantors, including business and personal financial statements, tax returns, and other documents.
  • Complete global cash flow computations, calculate performance ratios, and analyze multi-year trends.
  • Communicate a thorough understanding of client cash flows in analysis and meetings.
  • Research industry trends and data to identify questions and risks for each credit.
  • Perform analysis of loan collateral: accounts receivable, equipment, inventory, real estate and/or marketable securities.
  • Review existing credits for compliance with financial and reporting covenants.
  • Ensure that loan policy exceptions and loan file document exceptions are identified.
  • Author high-quality credit narratives, specifically:
  • Providing background of the borrower and detailing the requested transaction;
  • Identifying and discussing strengths as well as key risks and relevant mitigation;
  • Identifying Loan Policy and Product Guide exceptions;
  • Summarizing the financial performance of businesses and individuals; and
  • Evaluating collateral position for current and future clients.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the loan process from start to finish, including preflight memos, underwriting, loan documentation, loan servicing, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Finance and/or Accounting required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience within banking or financial services required.
  • Strong organizational time management skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to quickly grasp concepts and processes with limited guidance from management.
  • Must be comfortable working with and adapting to new complex systems and technology operating systems; prior experience with Salesforce and nCino is preferred.
  • Ability to support multiple projects in parallel and prioritize competing demands.
  • Embodies the Fortis Bank culture principles and competencies and consistently demonstrating a positive, ambitious, and solution-oriented attitude with clients and team members.
  • Proficient and experienced in Microsoft Office suite products and technology, including but not limited to: Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Communicates effectively, collaboratively, and professionally, both verbally and via e-mail and other chat tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills, regularly demonstrating the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build meaningful professional relationships with senior management and team members.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Reporting Structure: Reports to the VP, Commercial Portfolio Management

Office Requirements: This position will follow a hybrid work schedule and is required to work in the office at least 4 days per week.
