Job description


SUMMARY
Ajax Building Company, part of the STO Building Group, is looking for a hands-on construction leader who thrives in the field and takes pride in delivering exceptional projects. As Superintendent, you will lead day-to-day field operations, manage craft and subcontractor teams, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the high standards our clients expect. The Superintendent reports to and is directly accountable to the General Superintendent. Ability to travel to various project sites is required.
Assignments are available across Georgia-including Fulton County, Macon County, and Valdosta-as well as in the Orlando, Florida, area. Candidates may begin on a GA-based assignment and continue supporting projects within Georgia, with travel across Georgia (and into Florida & the Carolinas if desired) as project needs require. Per diem is provided for eligible travelers.
Must have solid experience leading active/occupied correctional facility projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Hire, train, evaluate and terminate craft personnel, following established company policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Supervise craft personnel and other contractors to ensure project is constructed by design, within budget and on schedule.
  • Assist project management with drawing interpretations and recommend construction methods and equipment.
  • Ensure all personnel comply with safety and working procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of project.
  • Promote a safe work environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives and other contractors.
  • Travel to and work from project locations throughout Georgia, with opportunities for assignments across the Southeast including Florida and the Carolinas.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise on-site functions.
  • Supervise craft employees and other contractors as required by the contract.
  • May authorize and approve all project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, field design change requests, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance, interpret drawings, and recommend construction methods and equipment as required.
  • Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards.
  • Ensure all on-site personnel comply with project procedures, safety program requirements, work rules, etc. Document all violations; notify project management, recommend/implement corrective actions as required.
  • Work closely with the Safety Director to create a constant awareness including rigid enforcement of the requirements of Ajax Building Company's Safety Policy.
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials & equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
  • Perform and/or supervise building layout and field engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 8-10+ years of supervisory experience in the construction field.
  • Strong experience leading active/occupied detention facility projects required.
  • Ability to travel to project assignments throughout Florida is required; flexibility to travel more broadly across the Southeast is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, and methods).
  • Thorough knowledge of all safety requirements.
  • Ability to motivate employees and handle any situation that occurs on the project.
  • Thorough knowledge and exposure within prison systems as field supervisor.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field.

Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to perform the following tasks:
  • Coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers with full use of hands, arms and fingers.
  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or work at any height.
  • Lift and carry objects weighting up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.
