A traveling stylist is a professional who provides hair, makeup, or fashion styling services at various locations instead of working from a fixed salon or studio. They often travel to clients' homes, hotels, photo shoots, weddings, or events to offer personalized beauty or fashion services. This flexibility allows them to cater to busy clients or special occasions, making their services highly convenient and tailored to individual needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a traveling stylist?

Communication and organizational skills are essential, as appointments may need to be adjusted for travel delays or changing client requests. This role often requires working outside traditional office hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet clients' availability. Building strong relationships with repeat clients and maintaining a reliable booking system are key to managing a successful mobile styling business.

Job description

Stylist
Work Remotely. Travel Often. Bring Design to Life.
Are you an experienced design professional who enjoys bringing spaces from concept to completion? As a Stylist at Empire & Co., you'll play a hands-on role in creating polished, memorable environments across model homes, multifamily communities, senior living, student residences, and amenity spaces.
This is a remote-based position with frequent Monday-Friday travel to project sites across the country. When you're not traveling, you'll have the flexibility to work remotely. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, working in different markets, collaborating with creative teams, and seeing their work come to life.
Why You'll Love This Opportunity
  • Work remotely while traveling to a variety of project sites
  • Bring design concepts to life through hands-on styling and installation
  • Work on a variety of residential projects where no two spaces are the same
  • Collaborate with Designers, Project Managers, clients, and installation teams
  • Make real-time design decisions and solve challenges in the field
  • See your work come together from installation through final presentation
  • Build experience across residential design, styling, client relations, and project execution
About Empire & Co.
With more than 80 years of experience, Empire & Co. is a leading commercial furniture, design, and installation company serving clients across commercial, residential, and hospitality environments.
As one of the largest Steelcase dealers in the country, we partner with 500+ manufacturers to create thoughtfully designed spaces that bring our clients' visions to life. Our team of more than 500 employees works across a wide range of projects and markets.
Our residential team creates distinctive spaces for multifamily housing, student residences, senior living communities, model homes, and amenity spaces. We bring together design, furniture, and installation expertise to create spaces that stand out and leave a lasting impression.
What You'll Own
Bring the Design Together
  • Lead on-site styling, installation, and final layouts for residential projects
  • Style furniture, artwork, accessories, textiles, and décor according to approved designs
  • Direct installation teams on placement and adjustments
  • Make confident design decisions when site conditions require changes
  • Ensure completed spaces are cohesive, polished, and client-ready
Create a Great Client Experience
  • Conduct client walkthroughs and present completed spaces
  • Communicate styling decisions and design intent
  • Gather and respond to client feedback
  • Maintain a professional and polished client-facing presence
Solve Challenges in the Field
  • Inspect completed spaces for quality, accuracy, and completeness
  • Identify missing, damaged, or incorrect items
  • Develop creative solutions through substitutions and layout adjustments
  • Partner with Warehouse and Procurement teams to resolve outstanding items
Collaborate Across Teams
  • Partner with Designers and Design Production to understand plans and project goals
  • Collaborate with Installation Leads and Drivers to maintain an efficient installation process
  • Communicate timelines, risks, and site conditions to Project Managers
  • Complete post-installation reports, photos, punch lists, and required documentation

What a Great Candidate Looks Like
We're looking for a design professional with 3-5 years of hands-on experience in interior styling, residential design, model home staging, visual merchandising, or a related field.
The ideal candidate:
  • Has experience bringing design concepts to life through final installation
  • Has a strong eye for design, composition, proportion, and detail
  • Is comfortable working directly with clients and installation teams
  • Can make confident design decisions and solve problems on-site
  • Can read design plans, elevations, and furniture layouts
  • Enjoys hands-on work and working in different environments
  • Is comfortable with frequent Monday-Friday travel
  • Holds a valid driver's licens
Ready to Take Your Design Experience on the Road?
If you're looking for a remote-based design role that combines flexibility with hands-on creative work, travel, and the opportunity to see your work come to life across different markets, we'd love to hear from you.
