Traveling sterile processing technicians are employed to work at different healthcare facilities, often on temporary assignments. They typically need certification, such as CBSPD or IAHCSMM, and must follow strict sterilization protocols; travel may require flexibility with schedules and locations. Job description

Sterile Processing Field Service Technician

Location: Atlanta, GA
Travel: 75–90%
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Field-based, hospital-based hours (varies by site)
Compensation: Competitive base salary + benefits

Break Out of Traditional SPD Into a High-Impact Field Role

We’re hiring a hands-on Sterile Processing (SPD) Field Service Specialist who thrives in clinical environments, enjoys solving mechanical problems, and is ready to step into a more dynamic, customer-facing role supporting hospitals and surgical centers.

This is a unique hybrid position that blends Sterile Processing expertise with field service engineering work - ideal for someone who understands instrumentation and OR workflows but also enjoys troubleshooting, fixing equipment, and working directly with hospital teams.

You’ll be on the front lines ensuring critical medical equipment and surgical instrumentation are functioning at the highest level - supporting both SPD departments and OR teams.

What You’ll Do
  • Travel to hospitals and surgical centers (75–90% of the time)
  • Perform on-site troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs on medical and surgical equipment
  • Work directly with OR and SPD leadership to resolve equipment and process challenges, ensuring the proper use and maintenance of our systems
  • Conduct hands-on training, support and in-services for clinical and SPD staff
  • Identify mechanical or workflow inefficiencies before they impact surgical cases
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and compliance records
  • Act as the go-to technical and SPD resource for hospital partners

What We’re Looking For
  • 3–5+ years of experience in Sterile Processing (SPD), Central Sterile, OR support, or surgical services
  • Strong mechanical aptitude - comfortable tinkering, troubleshooting, and “turning a wrench” when needed
  • Experience with surgical instrumentation, trays, or hospital equipment workflows
  • Naturally customer-service oriented and confident working directly with hospital staff
  • Strong communicator with a positive, team-first personality
  • Ability to work in fast-paced OR and SPD environments
  • CRCST, CBSPD, or CST preferred but not required

What You’ll Get
  • Competitive base salary
  • Full benefits package (health, dental, vision, 401k, PTO)
  • High-travel field role with autonomy and variety
  • Exposure to medical device field service career path
  • Opportunity to move beyond shift work
  • Strong hospital density = consistent, engaging field activity

Why This Role

This is not a traditional SPD tech job and not a purely technical bench repair role.

It’s a high-impact hybrid field position where you’ll use your SPD foundation to transition into a more dynamic, travel-based role supporting hospitals directly. Every day is different - mixing clinical interaction, mechanical troubleshooting, and real-time problem solving in surgical environments.

Requirements
  • Ability to travel 75–90% (multi-site regional coverage)
  • Ability to work in hospital, OR, and SPD environments
  • Ability to lift and handle medical equipment as needed
  • Must live near a major airport for efficient regional travel

Apply Today

If you’re an SPD professional who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and wants to step into a more dynamic field-based role with strong growth potential - this is built for you.
