Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg & Pediatrics position at a Level IV trauma CAH facility, requiring a minimum of 3 years of Med/Surg/Peds experience and 1 year of travel nursing experience.

Details
  • Acute care setting in a Med/Surg & Pediatrics unit at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
  • 19-bed unit with overflow capacity to the CCU side
  • Patient population includes CHF, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, orthopedic surgeries (knee, hip, shoulder replacements), general surgeries, and pediatric patients (RSV is common)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio goal of 1:4, with a maximum of 1:6
  • Nurse aides available with a goal ratio of 1:6 on day shift and 1:8 on nights, varying by census and staffing
  • RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips
  • Telemetry monitored by CCU nurses; Philips Monitors used on the unit — telemetry interpretation skills preferred but not required
  • EMR: MEDITECH
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • 6-week cyclic scheduling; block scheduling is not guaranteed
  • Every third weekend required, including Fri/Sat/Sun (flexibility available for Sat/Sun/Mon if needed)
  • Floating to CCU or OB may be required; cross-training to behavioral health or ER is optional but welcomed
  • 1 major and 1 minor holiday required based on contract season
Requirements
  • Active Iowa (IA) or Compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and PALS
  • Minimum 3 years of Med/Surg/Peds nursing experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
  • MEDITECH EMR experience is a plus
Additional Information
  • One 12-hour orientation shift provided prior to independent assignment
  • Charge nurse oversees both MSP and CCU; typically charge nurses do not carry a patient load but may take assignments as needed
  • House Supervisor is based out of the ED and oversees the entire hospital
  • Scrub colors: grey, black, pink, or white
  • Medication drawer access is managed via a shared physical key system — keys must be checked out from the Pyxis at the start of each shift and returned at the end; failure to return the key may result to a replacement fee
  • Staff are expected to be aware of and contribute to active quality improvement projects and initiatives on the unit
  • The facility values a positive, supportive work culture with strong team engagement
