Summary of Job Duties:The Monitor Technician is a trained member of the nursing team within the Telemetry department. Monitor Technicians provide 24/7 telemetry monitoring and observation for inpatients from all disciplines throughout the hospital. The department focus is aiding in identification and prevention of acute medical events by providing monitoring across multiple platforms, and to help ensure our patients receive the highest possible care available. The Telemetry department strives to maintain the most updated evidence-based practices and equipment needed to facilitate our goals. Monitor Technicians are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team approach we implement at UAMS.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED,PLUS Six (6) months direct patient care related experience.
  • PCT certified within three (3) months of hire (training provided).
  • Current certification or competency of EKG acquisition


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.
  • Current BLS.
  • Certification in EKG or Dysrhythmia course.

Special knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • Mustcomplete the dysrhythmia course within 90 day evaluation period and maintain competency as a telemetry technician.
  • Must haveexcellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

Job Requirements:

  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and telemetry data for assigned patients.
  • Recognize and promptly report abnormal cardiac rhythms, rate changes, and potentially life-threatening arrhythmias to nursing staff.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of telemetry observations and significant rhythm changes.
  • Perform routine rhythm interpretation according to department standards and established protocols.
  • Apply, replace, and troubleshoot telemetry monitoring equipment and electrodes as needed.
  • Ensure monitoring equipment is functioning properly and report equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Maintain constant observation of assigned telemetry monitors and respond appropriately to alarms.
  • Communicate critical monitor findings clearly and promptly to the appropriate nurse or clinical team member.
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes related to telemetry monitoring.
  • Maintain patient safety by identifying monitoring interruptions, loose leads, artifact, or signal loss.
  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support timely patient care.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Follow established procedures for emergency situations and immediately escalate critical changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe monitoring environment.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, competency assessments, and required departmental training.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to remain focused in a fast-paced clinical environment.
