Travel nannies often encounter challenges such as adapting to new cultures, managing time zone changes, and maintaining routines for children in unfamiliar environments. Flexibility is essential, as travel plans can change unexpectedly and nannies may need to adjust quickly. Effective communication with parents and a proactive approach to problem-solving help ensure a smooth experience for both the children and the family while on the move.

What is a travel nanny?

Travel nannies are professional childcare providers who accompany families during domestic or international trips to care for children. Their role includes providing continuity of care, managing routines, and ensuring children's safety and well-being while traveling. Travel nannies often handle tasks such as packing, organizing activities, and adapting to new environments, allowing parents to focus on work or relaxation during their travels. They are skilled in managing travel logistics for children and often have experience with different cultures and travel requirements. This specialized service is popular among families who travel frequently or require extra support on vacations.

What does a travel nanny do?

A travel nanny may be a full-time caregiver who travels with their employers or a specialized childcare professional who is hired for family vacations or work trips. As a travel nanny, your responsibilities include accompanying a family on a variety of trips and providing childcare services to allow parents to relax on their vacation or pursue other activities on the trip. You may plan special events with the kids, provide supervision at the hotel, and perform a wide range of other tasks as needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a travel nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Travel Nanny, you need strong childcare experience, a relevant certification such as CPR/First Aid, and often a background in early childhood education. Familiarity with travel logistics, international protocols, and tools like GPS or child-tracking apps is valuable. Exceptional adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and excellent communication skills help you manage diverse family needs in changing environments. These skills ensure the nanny can provide safe, consistent, and supportive care for children while navigating the unique challenges of travel.

Jovie

*Working with Multiple Families*

Engaging | Creative | Fun | Flexible

Have you worked as a babysitter, daycare worker, nanny, or church nursery volunteer? Are you a retired teacher or teaching professional who is seeking a small environment rather than a classroom? Are you seeking a position that allows you to flex your schedule around school, family, or another part-time position? If so, we welcome you to our on-call team, working around your flexible schedule!

As a back-up nanny, you will:

  • Care for children in-home, but you will not be required to transport children
  • No household duties other than common sense clean-up of your activities or meals with the child
  • Support families who need care for children ranging from infants through toddlers. Highest demand for care for children under the age of 2!
  • Engage children by providing safety and leading hands-on activities based on your observations of the children’s age-appropriate development

We provide:

  • Pay: $22 per hour - $25 per hour per hour
  • Receive paid training and a nanny kit filled with age-appropriate activities and games that you will bring to childcare assignments
  • Enjoy opportunities to advance in the childcare field, and have the first chance to be placed with families seeking one consistent nanny, both full or part-time
  • Paid sick time for both part-time and full-time schedules
  • Benefits include: medical stipend, paid vacation time, paid holidays, student loan repayment matching funds, or retirement savings matching funds for full-time work
  • Opportunities for mileage stipend, bonuses for excellent feedback, and various contests and get-togethers for support and connection
  • Legal employment on a W-2 including unemployment insurance and the ability to build your resume

About you:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Experience working with children, paid or unpaid, infant experience mandatory
  • Reliable transportation
  • Your willingness and ability to travel to various homes throughout the area
  • You are available any 3 or more weekdays for 6 - 8 hour shifts between 7 am and 7 pm
  • Commitment to be communicative and responsive to the staffing supervisor and a bright smile to greet each family!
