SUMMARY
Hourly rate will be determined based on market rate, experience and discipline.
This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
SUMMARY
The Instructor will teach a variety of Pharmacist Medication Aide courses and provide quality instruction in a safe environment to students in accordance with Alvin College policies and procedures. This position requires the individual to follow the current course outlines, objectives, evaluate student competencies and maintain safety procedures within the classroom. The instructor constantly evaluates their effectiveness in the classroom by helping students obtain course learning outcomes and the impact that they have on student retention. Our faculty enjoy an atmosphere of collegiality and mutual respect that promotes outstanding teaching and fosters active intellectual and creative engagement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Instruct and supervise a diverse population of students in the classroom at various times and locations
  • Possess a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral
  • Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the HHSC.
  • Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources
  • Assess students' performance through a range of measurement activities and keeps them informed of their progress in a timely manner
  • Engage students face-to-face and through electronic communications
  • Utilize technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others
  • Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives
  • Build positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community
  • Adheres to Alvin College's policies and procedures.
  • Attends institutional meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Pharmacy Degree from an accredited institution AND
  • Minimum of one year experience as a Pharmacist AND currently employed as a consultant pharmacist in a long term care facility (nursing home)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Basic proficiency in online tools such as Blackboard
  • The instructor will frequently perform autonomously and must be self-motivated
  • Will be required to proceed with independent actions with mutually established guidelines and minimal supervision from the CEWD Program Director
  • Must be flexible with the ability to work days, nights, and/or weekends with the understanding that available hours will be based on the needs of the program not to exceed 19 hours per week
  • Must be flexible and understands a minimum number of hours is not guaranteed and that classes may be cancelled and/or rescheduled with minimal notice due to student need, student enrollment and/or program needs
