Shift Supervisor

Shifts Available:

2nd Shift - 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM Tuesday - Saturday

Weekend - 10 AM to 8 PM  Friday-Monday with the ability to cover 7 AM to 5 PM or 1 PM to 11 PM.

About the Role

Hope Campus is committed to creating a safe, trauma-informed residential environment where youth are supported through therapeutic relationships, emotional regulation, and the use of most appropriate interventions for each young person. 

The Shift Supervisor provides leadership and oversight of residential unit operations during assigned shifts, supervising Residential Treatment Specialists and ensuring the consistent implementation of trauma-informed care, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) practices, and restraint reduction strategies. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for maintaining program structure, modeling emotional regulation and professional behavior, directing staff during crisis situations, and ensuring the safety and well-being of youth and staff within the residential environment. 

Qualifications 

Education: 

• High school diploma or GED; 

• A Bachelor’s degree program, in a related field, may substitute for experience 

License or Certification: 

• None required 

Experience:  

• At least 3 years in residential or behavioral health setting 

• At least 1 year supervisory experience 

Other:   

• Valid driver license in the State of Ohio with an acceptable driving record 

• Successful completion of all required post-offer background checks 

• Current TB skin test or equivalent showing no signs or symptoms of tuberculosis upon first day of work 

• Successful completion of the following training courses or certifications within 30 days of starting work

Leadership and Supervision 

• Provides direct supervision and leadership to Residential Treatment Specialists I, II, and III during assigned shifts. 

• Establishes clear expectations for staff performance, professional conduct, and program structure. 

• Delegates responsibilities and coordinates staff assignments to ensure safe and effective unit operations. 

• Provides real-time direction and guidance to staff during routine programming and crisis situations. 

• Monitors staff adherence to program expectations, policies, and procedures. 

• Models professionalism, accountability, and appropriate professional boundaries. 

• Addresses staff concerns, questions, and operational issues during the shift. 

• Maintains clear awareness of youth supervision and staffing coverage at all times. 

Program Operations and Oversight 

• Ensures residential routines, schedules, and program expectations are consistently implemented. 

• Maintains awareness of youth whereabouts, activities, and participation in programming. 

• Ensures appropriate supervision and safety within the residential unit environment. Monitors the condition and safety of the unit environment. 

• Reviews incident documentation and shift reports for accuracy and completeness. 

• Communicates significant events, safety concerns, and operational updates to leadership and incoming shifts. 

Emotional Regulation and Professional Modeling 

• Demonstrates advanced emotional self-regulation and maintains a calm presence during stressful or crisis situations. 

• Models appropriate emotional responses and problem-solving strategies for staff and youth. 

• Supports staff in maintaining emotional regulation when responding to challenging youth behavior. 

• Promotes respectful communication and professional interactions among staff and youth. 

• Maintains situational awareness and sound judgment in high-stress situations. 

• Supports post-crisis debriefing and reflection 

Crisis Response and Restraint Reduction Leadership 

• Demonstrates strong understanding of the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Stress Model of Crisis. 

• Guides staff in recognizing early signs of escalation and implementing preventative strategies. 

• Directs staff in the use of verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques to prevent crisis situations. 

• Ensures staff prioritize least restrictive interventions and adhere to restraint reduction practices. 

• Coaches staff in co-regulation strategies and emotional first aid during youth distress. 

• Monitors the appropriate use of approved physical safety interventions according to training. 

• Leads post-crisis debriefings to support team reflection and improved response.

• Supervises residential unit operations during assigned shifts. 

• Provides direct oversight and supervision of Residential Treatment Specialists I, II, and III. 

• Assumes primary operational responsibility for the residential unit during assigned shifts, ensuring the safety of youth, staff, and the facility. 

• Maintains structure, routines, and expectations within the residential program environment. 

• Ensures youth safety, supervision, and participation in daily programming and activities. 

• Maintains awareness of youth whereabouts and staff assignments throughout the shift. 

• Provides real-time direction and support to staff in managing youth behavior and program activities. 

• Responds to crisis situations and directs staff in appropriate intervention strategies. 

• Utilizes Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) principles to prevent and de-escalate crisis situations, prioritizing emotional regulation, co-regulation, and least restrictive interventions to maintain safety. 

• Monitors the appropriate use of approved physical safety interventions and ensures adherence to agency policies and training protocols. 

• Reviews incident reports and shift documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with agency standards. 

• Ensures incidents, safety concerns, and significant events are communicated to appropriate leadership and documented according to agency policy. 

• Maintains communication with residential leadership and other departments regarding operational concerns, youth needs, and safety issues. 

• Ensures staff maintain appropriate youth supervision, engagement in programming, and adherence to treatment plans. 

• Serves as the on-call supervisor during assigned times, responding to staffing needs and operational concerns as they arise. 

• Coordinates shift coverage for call-offs or staffing shortages by identifying and securing appropriate staff to maintain safe supervision ratios and program operations. 

• Understands that the organization reserves the right to mandate overtime as needed to ensure the safety, supervision and care of the youth 

• Adjusts staff assignments as needed to ensure appropriate supervision and effective program functioning throughout the shift. 

• Monitors staff adherence to agency policies, procedures, therapeutic expectations, and program routines during assigned shifts. 

• Maintains a safe, structured, and therapeutic residential environment for youth and staff. 

Other Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• Maintains professional knowledge and skills. 

• Participates in required meetings and training sessions. 

• Assists with transportation or program support when necessary. 

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely. 

• Ability to remain on feet for extended periods throughout the shift. 

• Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and movement throughout the unit. 

• Ability to respond quickly during crisis situations. 

• Ability to perform approved physical safety interventions in accordance with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training.
