Job description

Position Title:  Dispatcher
Division:  Operations/Transportation
Reports To:  Director, Transportation
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
Salary Schedule:  AS5
Work Days:   244

Essential Duties: 

  1. Manage overall functions of communications on the base radio.
  2. Communicate professionally and effectively to all drivers and personnel over base radio. 
  3. Manage substitute driver assignments.
  4. Take calls from drivers who call in and will be absent.  
  5. Track and disseminate driver attendance data to Route Supervisors. 
  6. Formulate plans for splitting routes and covering routes on a daily basis.
  7. Record all communication that occurs on base radio. 
  8. Serve as a substitute bus driver when needed.
  9. Assist in answering and routing phone calls.
  10. Complete legible and accurate required reports in the prescribed manner and in a timely manner. 
  11. Assist the Director and Executive Director of Transportation in responding to any transportation related concern from drivers, parents, and students. 
  12. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

 
Qualifications: 
  1. Minimum of a High School Diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE), required. 
  2. Commercial Driver's License with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements required at the time of employment. 
  3. Minimum of three years of experience in transportation operations; experience in public school transportation, preferred.  
  4. Ability to pass annual physical required. 
  5. Experience in preparing and maintaining route information.  
  6. Demonstrated competence in office technology including the use of word processing and databases. Experience with Edulog Routing and GPS software, preferred. 
  7. Team-oriented with a proven record of working well with others. 
  8. Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.  
  9. Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators. 
  10. Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  11. Ability to be present at the physical worksite. 
  12. Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  13. Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.  
  14. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
