Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions has an exciting opportunity for a Transportation/Roadway Engineer with a drainage background that is interested in opportunities for career growth.

This position is an opportunity to join our rapidly growing Transportation team in our Kennesaw, Georgia Office. Wood is a leader in Transportation with a focus on the highway mode, serving federal and state DOTs as well as local municipalities. Wood has key contracts in place and a strong project portfolio presenting opportunities for rapid expansion of this practice. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong technical capabilities and a commitment to delivering a quality product.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently performs detailed roadway or drainage design for urban and rural roadway/bridge projects
  • Will utilize MicroStation, InRoads, and Open Roads for roadway/bridge design and may oversee and direct the work of junior designers
  • Coordinates the various disciplines of roadway projects, including survey, design, grading, drainage and utilities
  • Develops plan sets, specifications, cost estimates, and writes reports
  • Works well under the direction of senior engineers and work well in a team environment
  • Attends and actively participates in client meetings
  • Assists in developing marketing proposals
Skills / Qualifications
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering, MS will be taken into consideration
  • 3+ years of experience in roadway design or drainage design for roadway/bridge projects
  • PE in Georgia or the ability to obtain the PE within one year of hire preferred
  • Strong technical capability in transportation engineering
  • Proficient in MicroStation, InRoads, Open Roads and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Ability to apply Traffic design simulation data to evaluate roadway design needs
  • Signal Design experience a plus
  • Signing and Marking Design experience a plus
  • Must have the ability to learn and use 3D modeling techniques
  • Drainage design experience, or the ability to quickly learn hydraulic design principles and software such as HEC-RAS, StormCAD, InRoads Drainage, Culvert Master, Hy8; develop GDOT MS4 reports
  • Experience in developing GDOT roadway plans according to the Project Development Manual and working knowledge of applicable design, plan preparation and CADD standards
  • Demonstrated consistency and attention to detail; proven track record successfully completing small and/or large-scale projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with other team members on large multi-discipline projects
  • Experience with GDOT and/or other State DOT projects preferred
  • Must pass drug test, background check and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
