About The Central Texas Food Bank
The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization in Central Texas and a proud member of the Feeding America network. From its headquarters in Austin and its distribution hub in Waco, CTFB serves a 21-county region on a mission to increase food access by providing nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transforming lives through programs, education, and innovative solutions. Through a combination of direct service programs and a network of approximately 250 nonprofit community partners, CTFB supports over 612,000 food-insecure individuals annually. Position Overview

The Director of Transportation is responsible for the leadership of the transportation team. This position plays a critical role in overseeing all transportation operations, ensuring the efficient, effective and timely distribution of food to individuals and families in need across Central Texas. This role involves hands-on oversight and participation in daily monitoring activities as KPIs, with the understanding that responsibilities become more elevated in support of programmatic expansion, including but not limited to the proper scheduling, routing, and organization of all food delivery activities. This role also oversees the corrective and preventive maintenance of our transportation fleet.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Operations: Leads transportation strategy and daily operations, including routes, scheduling, delivery, and SOPs, to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service that meets organizational and community needs. Partner with other departments to ensure transportation services meet operational and community needs.

Fleet Management: Oversees fleet maintenance, utilization, replacement planning, and related expenses to ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, and cost-effective. In addition, creates and executes a preventive maintenance program to reduce downtime and improve vehicle reliability.

Safety & Compliance: Leads transportation safety efforts, training, and compliance with applicable regulations/requirements/laws and CTFB standards to reduce risk and promote a strong culture of safety and accountability. Additionally, monitors safety performance and implements corrective actions as needed.

Performance & Continuous Improvement: Establishes and regularly monitors performance measures and uses data, technology, and operational insights to make decisions, improve safety, service, efficiency, and cost.

Vendor Management: Manages transportation vendors, contracts, and partnerships to ensure service, quality, performance, and service/cost expectations are consistently met.

Team Leadership: Builds and develops a high-performing transportation team by setting clear expectations, coaching and developing team members, promoting accountability and collaboration, and modeling CTFB's values and leadership expectations.

Organizational Alignment: Models and reinforces the Central Texas Food Bank's values of Service, Integrity, Dignity, Collaboration, and Innovation while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Other: Performs other duties as assigned.

Relationships
This position is a member of the senior management team, reporting to the VP of Logistics, works closely with the Director of Warehousing, oversees a team of 25+ drivers plus 2 direct reports and works closely with other departments such as distribution, food industry, network services and others.
