What is a transportation escort driver?

Transportation Escort Drivers are professionals responsible for safely driving individuals who require assistance to and from appointments, events, or other destinations. They often work with elderly passengers, people with disabilities, or others who may need extra help during transit. Their duties can include helping passengers in and out of vehicles, ensuring their comfort and safety, and adhering to scheduled pick-up and drop-off times. Escort drivers may work for healthcare facilities, senior centers, or private transportation services. This role requires good driving skills, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility.

What are some common challenges transportation escort drivers face during daily operations?

Transportation Escort Drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating through heavy traffic, coordinating with multiple team members, and ensuring the safety of oversized or sensitive cargo during transit. Effective communication with lead drivers, law enforcement, and fleet managers is crucial for smooth operations. Additionally, adapting to changing weather conditions and route modifications requires flexibility and attention to detail. Staying up-to-date with regulations and maintaining professionalism under pressure are also key aspects of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a transportation escort driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Transportation Escort Driver, you need a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, two-way radios, and sometimes specific escort certifications are typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure the safe and efficient movement of oversized loads while minimizing risks on the road.

San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco, CA 94128

landlineco.com

About Us:
The Landline Company (landlineco.com) is an innovative ground transportation company that connects airline passengers to major airports through premium motorcoach service in partnership with airlines including American Airlines, Sun Country, Delta, Jet Blue, and Air Canada.

We are launching service between Schulz–Sonoma County Airport and the San Francisco International Airport, allowing passengers to check in and transfer luggage seamlessly between our vehicles and partner flights.

The Role:
This role will interview in person on Aug 18th or 26th and start on/around Sept 14th.

We're seeking Airport Escort Drivers (Ramp Drivers) to join our San Francisco International Airport team. In this role, you'll operate a vehicle to escort and support our motorcoaches traveling between Schulz–Sonoma County Airport and SFO, including operations within the airport's Airport Operations Area (AOA).

This is a hands-on, safety-critical role where you'll drive on the ramp, marshal and guide buses into position, and help coordinate vehicle movements in a busy airport environment. You'll always work as part of a team, typically two staff per vehicle, so you're never handling passenger operations alone. You'll also play a key customer-facing role: once a bus arrives, you and your teammate manage the full passenger drop-off from start to finish: unloading luggage from the motorcoach, staging bags for airline agents, and personally guiding travelers to the correct Airport entrance.
No prior aviation or security experience is required. Before working independently, you'll complete paid, hands-on training covering AOA driving, airport safety protocols, marshaling, and all verification procedures. Along the way, you'll earn secure airport access credentials and airfield experience that few driving jobs offer.

What You'll Do:

  • Operate a vehicle safely within the AOA (Air Operations Area) and airport ramp environment, following all airport safety protocols and traffic regulations
  • Serve as a ramp escort, guiding motorcoaches and other vehicles safely and marshaling them into position at gates, parking, and drop-off locations through the AOA gate
  • Maintain constant awareness of surroundings in a high-risk, high-traffic environment
  • Track incoming bus status as it approaches SFO
  • Guide passengers safely during drop-offs, working alongside a second team member (typically two staff per vehicle)
  • Welcome passengers, assist with unloading luggage from the motorcoach, and direct travelers to their proper airport entrance
  • Maintain a visible safety presence throughout passenger movement
  • Stage bags for airline handling using proper lifting and safety techniques
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • Experience driving in urban and highway environments preferred
  • Ability to maintain focus and situational awareness during extended periods
  • Ability to communicate clearly with drivers and operations staff and execute customer service greetings with passengers
  • Ability to pass a preemployment DOT drug test including marijuana and to participate in random drug and alcohol testing  (this is a USDOT safety-sensitive position)
  • Ability to pass a preemployment criminal background check to obtain a badge to access secure airport locations
  • Ability to work at approximately 5:00AM on any day of the week, including Sunday, Saturday, and holidays.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and company protocols, with attention to detail
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and professional demeanor
  • Reliable personal transportation to and from the work location required
  • Ability to lift up to 70lbs
  • Experience in Airport Operations or Customer Service at SFO is preferred

Shift:
This operation runs 7 days a week, including holidays, with shifts starting around 4:00 AM until around 11:30 PM, and you would need to be available for scheduling in any of these times

We are an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants equally without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status.
