Job description

Job Overview
Shields Asphalt Paving, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Dispatch Intern to assist our dispatch and operations team. This position is a great opportunity for a student or entry-level candidate interested in construction operations, logistics, or fleet management to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment.
The Dispatch Intern will support daily trucking operations, help maintain records, and assist with coordination between drivers, plants, and project teams.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparing daily trucking schedules using company-owned and broker trucks
  • Support dispatching of triaxles through communication with drivers and brokers
  • Monitor trucking activity using dispatch and GPS software
  • Help identify inefficiencies and report observations to dispatch staff
  • Assist in coordinating trucking needs with project managers and superintendents
  • Help maintain driver and equipment records, including licensing, registrations, insurance cards, and maintenance logs
  • Support compliance documentation related to DOT and safety regulations
  • Assist with dispatch reports and data entry
  • Communicate with asphalt and stone plants regarding product availability
  • Assist with timecard entry and payroll support tasks
  • Support fuel tracking and reporting
  • Assist with organizing training records and safety documentation
  • Perform general administrative and operational support tasks as assigned

Requirements
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including Excel and email
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to work in an office environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in construction, logistics, or fleet operations
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in business, construction management, logistics, or a related field (not required)
