Overview

Pape-Dawson is seeking a full-time Associate Vice President of Transportation Design for our Transportation group based in our Nashville office. This position is responsible for leading the roadway design group, including staff development and overseeing projects, their delivery, and adhering to budgets and timelines. The Associate Vice President is also expected to understand and communicate local market conditions, personnel needs and industry trends.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with local and state governments, private clients, and community leaders

  • Direct and oversee transportation design projects through the project managers

  • Overseeing and mentoring staff

  • Provide quality control on project delivery

  • Prepare proposal content and client agreements

  • Monitor project tasks, budgets, and schedules with project managers

  • Monitor project performance

  • Lead departmental marketing efforts, including proposal efforts, conference participation, and professional organization membership

  • Lead department personnel, including hiring and performance management

  • Oversight of sub-contractors

  • Create and adhere to yearly budget and participate in monthly client invoicing

  • Additional related duties as needed

Requirements

  • 15+ years' experience in the Transportation Design field

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

  • Tennessee PE license or the ability to achieve by reciprocity

  • Experience leading and directing individuals or a team

  • Understanding of roadway design guidance from AASHTO

  • Experience with TDOT guidelines, procedures, plan preparation, and local programs projects

  • Understanding of MicroStation/Geopak and Open Roads Designer

  • Significant experience in development of roadway plans and specifications

  • Experience and relationships with TDOT, local municipalities, and permitting agencies

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience with billing and client invoicing

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
