Job description

The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:
POSITION: Community Facilitator Translator
POSITION SUMMARY: To provide district-wide oral and written translation services for students and families, including English Language Learners as well as to increase family engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Proficient communication (reading, writing, listening and speaking) in English and one or more additional languages. Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole preferred.
2. Ability to travel throughout the district.
3. Experience in interpretation of educational documents, settings and texts.
4. Ability to coordinate and lead family engagement activities.
5. Ability to work flexible hours (on occasion) as needed, some evening events required.
6. Good cross cultural awareness and communication skills.
7. Attention to details and the ability to organize events.
8. Understands the cultural, racial, ethnic differences of the families and individuals we serve.
9. Certification as a Translator from a recognized program/organization OR willing to complete translator certification within 6 months of hiring
The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee.
REPORTS TO: Director of Parent and Community Engagement
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide interpretation services for families at PACE and individual schools (as needed).
2. Translate documents at the request of PACE and/or MLL administrators
3. Act as a point of contact for families in accessing needed community resources and services. This includes but is not limited to, meetings, phone calls, email, and home visits to assess family needs.
4. Ongoing and regular communication regarding any school related information.
5. Organize and lead community/family engagement activities, such as school events, and assist with MLL events and EL Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Meetings.
6. Assist with translations with parent engagement activities as needed throughout the district.
7. Assist with tasks or events that widen the school-family-community network.
8. Create, collect, organize, and maintain resource materials for families.
9. Assists with parent and student needs within the school's office and Parent Engagement Center operations.
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary based on a 185 day work year with additional summer hours compensated as needed. $35,000 - $45,000 annually
