Job description

Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a full-time Housing Custodian on Maui to support a Kauhale supportive housing program that values safety, cleanliness, and shared responsibility. This role is essential to maintaining a clean, functional, and respectful living environment for residents and staff.

As a Housing Custodian, you will support adults living in shared housing by ensuring common areas, facilities, and outdoor spaces are clean, safe, and well maintained, helping promote stability and dignity in a home-like setting.

What Youโ€™ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Facility Cleaning & Sanitation: Clean offices, hallways, bathrooms, dining areas, and common spaces
  • Floor Care: Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, and buff floors using appropriate equipment
  • Restroom Maintenance: Sanitize restrooms and restock soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
  • Trash & Waste Removal: Empty trash, replace liners, and maintain waste areas
  • Light Maintenance Support: Replace light bulbs, clean fans, and assist with minor repairs
  • Outdoor Upkeep: Hose down driveways, walkways, and exterior areas on a regular schedule
  • Supply Management: Stock custodial closets and report supply needs to supervisors
  • Safety & Reporting: Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly to management

Housing Custodian Qualifications

  • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of custodial, janitorial, or building maintenance experience
  • Skills: Dependability, attention to detail, time management, and ability to work independently
  • Certifications: TB clearance and CPR/First Aid (or willingness to obtain)
  • Fit for the Role: Comfortable working in a shared housing environment supporting adults living with mental health challenges

Requirements & Work Conditions

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform physical tasks
  • Work takes place in indoor and outdoor residential housing settings
