Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented and highly motivated Project Architect for immediate employment in our Cleveland or Columbus, OH office. The Architectural Job Captain will work with project teams under the direction of the Project Architect. Active engagement and support of our collaborative and iterative design process is essential, along with the desire to seek innovative design solutions while providing unique perspectives on the built environment. About the Ohio Buildings + Places Team

Our Ohio practice - anchored by large studios in Columbus and Cleveland - is one of the most established and highest-performing B+P practices in AECOM's West Region. We offer a full suite of services: architecture, interiors, building systems and structural engineering, urbanism and planning (including landscape), workplace transformation, advisory services, technology solutions, and digital delivery - and serve as a Center of Excellence for many of these disciplines.
We work in a flat, collaborative model across the West Region with other B+P practices, as well as with AECOM's Transportation, Water, and Advisory business lines to support vertical infrastructure and comprehensive solutions. Our Ohio-led client base is global and includes Public Non-Federal, Cultural + Civic, Higher Education, Science & Technology, and Transit, plus a full suite of Federal clients (ANG, NASA, DHS, GSA, NPS, VA, USACE, USAF, USSF). Recent/ongoing work in Ohio includes: City of Columbus New Municipal Courthouse; COTA West Broad BRT Corridor; Case Western Reserve University Robbins Laboratories; CCAD Center for Creative Collaboration; Franklin Park Conservatory Palm House & Showhouse Renovations; Ohio University Violet L. Patton Center for Arts Education; Columbus Symphony Orchestra Center of Music Innovation & Education.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Performing basic architectural/engineering calculations.

Preparing specifications, reports and related data tables.

Maintaining liaison with design and drafting groups.

Preparing, reviewing, and approving drawings as required.

Under the direction of the Supervising Architect, may independently perform advanced technical assignments of various complexities within approved schedules and budgets. 

May coordinate technical and administrative activities with employees in other disciplines and other departments participating on an assigned project. 

May assist in the training and evaluation of assigned architectural and design/drafting personnel. 

May review and approve conceptual designs. 

May assist in the development of new architectural methods and techniques.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Architecture plus four (4) years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Licensed as a registered architect or proven steps toward licensure such as exams completed, preferably in OH

  • Knowledge of buildings systems and material.

  • Knowledge of local building codes

  • Ability to produce design intent renderings and design concept diagrams

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 or more years of professional experience with an architectural firm

  • Exceptional Technical skills related to planning, architectural design and detailing and a passion for design. The ideal candidate will become an understudy to experienced architects to assist in the development of high-quality design and detailing for complex projects

  • Experience coordinating work with a variety of disciplines: civil, landscape, and MEPS

  • Diversified knowledge of architectural principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields

  • Independently analyzes and applies solutions to challenging issues within area of expertise by applying critical thinking

  • Accountable for larger portions of a project or process and prepares project deliverables that are reviewed by senior team members

  • Responsible for initiating and developing design and construction document drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project's discipline leaders

  • Under indirect supervision, completes design assignments of moderate complexity. Analyzes issues and identifies solutions using existing techniques, and proposes approaches for novel issues, and exercises independent judgement in determining how work is performed

  • Experience with construction administration and permitting processes

  • Ability to work as team player with peers and provides guidance and training to junior team members

  • Working knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and building structures

  • Excellent communication skills with peers, clients and contractors

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Highly Proficient in 3D modeling software: Revit, Sketchup and/or Rhino

  • Federal project experience strongly desired.

  • Interest or experience in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the A/E service model.
