Description

Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) is looking for a professional, service-minded Operations Supervisor to help keep our daily transit operations running safely, smoothly, and reliably. This role is ideal for a strong communicator and steady problem-solver who enjoys leading people, supporting frontline teams, and making a visible impact in the community every day.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Operations Managers, the Operations Supervisor provides hands-on support for daily operations, supervises the Public Bus Operators, monitors service performance, responds to operational needs in the field, and helps ensure BATA continues delivering safe, dependable, customer-focused transportation.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Provide daily supervision and operational support for Public Bus Operators.
  • Monitor radio communications, operator check-in/check-out, schedule adherence, and route performance.
  • Provide road supervision and respond to accidents, incidents, passenger concerns, and service disruptions.
  • Assist with first-level investigations into customer complaints and operational incidents.
  • Support operator training, coaching, evaluations, and corrective action processes as needed.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports related to work activities, operations, safety, and incidents.
  • Assist with safety and security coordination involving federal, state, or local law enforcement personnel.
  • Operate BATA vehicles and equipment as needed to support service coverage.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of all electronics, communication equipment and systems as well as strong working knowledge of all vehicles in BATAโ€™s fleet.
  • Be available for on-call assistance in support of the operation.
What Weโ€™re Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or college education preferred.
  • Experience supervising employees, including coaching, training, corrective action, and evaluations.
  • Valid Michigan driverโ€™s license and the ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driverโ€™s License with passenger endorsement and air brakes within 30 days of hire.
  • Excellent driving record and ability to safely operate vehicles and related equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Comfort with computers, software, electronics, communication equipment, and learning new technology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • A neat, professional appearance and a commitment to excellent customer service.
