About the Position

The Honor Bell Foundation’s mission is to create a community of veterans, foster public appreciation of military service, and ensure fellow veterans receive a proper and meaningful final tribute.

At the heart of the Honor Bell Foundation’s mission are Bell Honors at military and veteran funerals and interments. The Bell Operations Coordinator – Fort Logan is entrusted with carrying that mission forward each day by ensuring final honors are delivered with dignity, precision, and reverence for every veteran and family we serve.

This position is truly at the heart of our work. From preparing and transporting the Honor Bell, to coordinating and leading Bell Guards, to ensuring each ceremony is ready and conducted according to Honor Bell standards, the Coordinator helps fulfill the Foundation’s most important responsibility: to be present when a veteran is laid to rest and to render a final tribute worthy of their service and sacrifice.

This is a highly independent, hands-on role combining funeral operations, volunteer coordination, scheduling, technology, vehicle and equipment stewardship, and compassionate service to veterans and their families.

Every schedule entry represents a veteran. Every service represents a family. Every toll carries a story of service, sacrifice, and a life worthy of being honored and remembered.

Essential Responsibilities

• Drive and operate the Foundation’s extended length, high-roof Ford Transit each workday, transporting the Honor Bell from its off-site storage location to Fort Logan National Cemetery, between scheduled funeral services throughout the cemetery, and back to storage at the end of the day.
• Coordinate daily Bell Honors, including positioning, deploying, securing, and returning the Honor Bell and Foundation vehicle for each scheduled service.
• Lead or coordinate volunteer Bell Guards in rendering final Bell Honors in accordance with Foundation standards and ceremonial protocols.
• Coordinate Bell Guard scheduling, communication, recruitment, orientation, and training.
• Assist with receiving, scheduling, confirming, and updating Bell Honor requests and maintain accurate service records.
• Use Foundation database, scheduling, email, Google Workspace, and shared systems to support daily operations.
• Maintain the Honor Bell, vehicle, deployment system, and ceremonial equipment in clean, safe, and service-ready condition.
• Coordinate routine vehicle and equipment maintenance and promptly report safety or operational concerns.
• Represent the Honor Bell Foundation professionally and compassionately with families, cemetery personnel, military funeral honors teams, funeral directors, veterans, volunteers, and community partners.

• Proficiency with email, smartphones, databases, scheduling applications, and Google Workspace.
• Sound judgment and a strong commitment to safety and confidentiality.

Military service is strongly preferred. Veterans and currently serving members of the National Guard and Reserve are strongly encouraged to apply.

Driver and Employment Requirements

• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must maintain a motor vehicle record acceptable to the Honor Bell Foundation and its automobile insurance carrier.
• Must remain eligible and insurable to operate Foundation vehicles and be comfortable safely operating a large extended-length, high-roof Ford Transit-style vehicle.
• Satisfactory completion of applicable job-related background screening is required.
• Because this position includes daily vehicle operation and other safety-sensitive responsibilities, employees must report to work able to safely perform all assigned duties.
• Employees may not operate Foundation vehicles, the Honor Bell deployment system, or other safety-sensitive equipment while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, prescription or over-the-counter medication, fatigue, illness, or any other condition that could affect alertness, judgment, coordination, reaction time, or safe performance, consistent with applicable law and insurance requirements.
• Employees are responsible for promptly communicating any work-related safety limitation or need for accommodation that may affect their ability to safely operate a vehicle or equipment.
• Compliance with all Foundation vehicle-safety, substance-use, confidentiality, workplace conduct, and other employment policies is required.

Physical and Work Requirements

This is an active, primarily outdoor position. The employee must be able to:

• Repeatedly enter and exit the Foundation vehicle and climb into the cargo area.
• Operate the vehicle-mounted sliding system used to deploy and retract the Honor Bell.
• Push, pull, reach, bend, stoop, crouch, and handle routine equipment and ceremonial supplies.
• Stand for extended periods during funeral services and walk throughout cemetery service areas.
• Work outdoors in changing Colorado weather conditions.

Location and Schedule

This position is not eligible for remote work. The employee must reside within the Denver metropolitan area or within a reasonable daily commuting distance of Fort Logan National Cemetery and the Honor Bell storage location.

The position works primarily Monday through Friday during cemetery service hours, with occasional evening, weekend, holiday, off-site funeral, or community ceremony assignments.

Benefits

Employees accrue 8 hours of PTO per month, receive paid holidays, paid sick leave and FAMLI benefits in accordance with Colorado law, a $100 monthly technology reimbursement, and reimbursement for approved business mileage and travel expenses.
